If you have a high intensity practice that is greater than 60 minutes, fueling is essential for performance and for reducing the risks of injury and cramping. Try to eat a 1:1 ratio of carbs per minute of intense exercise 30-60 minutes before practice. If you have a low appetite or have difficulty eating solid foods before practice, try to eat 1 tablespoon of honey and follow it up with a glass of water or apple juice.

Staying properly hydrated is a simple yet frequently overlooked aspect of maintaining peak physical performance and overall health. To keep your body functioning at its absolute best: Focus on fluid intake all day: *Do not just drink water when you feel thirsty. Sip consistently from morning to night; Always carry a water bottle; *Weigh yourself before and after a workout - The weight lost during exercise is primarily fluid, helping you calculate exactly how much you must replenish; *Track hydration by checking urine color. Dehydration can negatively impact performance and cause early fatigue. Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink. Grab your water bottle, stay proactive, and keep your energy levels high throughout the entire day!

Level up your athletic performance with proper protein intake!

Here is your quick guide to fueling right:

The Basics: Protein is essential for building and repairing muscle and other tissues. Animal proteins provide all essential amino acids (EAAs), while plant-based athletes need a variety of protein sources to ensure they get all EAAs.
Daily Goals: Athletes should aim for 1.2 to 2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Make sure to spread your intake throughout the day by getting 20-40g of protein at each meal and snack.
Recovery: Optimize muscle synthesis by consuming protein paired with carbohydrates within 30-60 minutes after a workout. Quick and easy examples include chocolate milk, smoothies, trail mix, or a PB&J sandwich.
