My first autumn without my 4-legged bestie to take this morning walk.

So, I took the time to smell the smells in the air, pause for random noises, figure out how to see past the edge of the fog, and walk our usual route just a bit more relaxed.

I even carried my morning coffee with me, so I would have to pause for a drink, and listen to the morning sounds. I even discovered the first round of mushrooms growing from the piles of leaves littering the ground.

I found some peace this morning, even while missing my pup. Rest in peace, old man. I hope you’re enjoying all the smells and finally catching some cats or rabbits or squirrels.

from our Chicago trip. This elevator was a bit creepy calling out the floors like that. 🤣 So you know, Congress Plaza Hotel is DEFINITELY haunted, but it was a wonderful stay. Staff is phenomenal, food is glorious, and the construction is stunning.

I enjoyed the things we got to do, have recommendations if you’re planning to go.

Big thing: can we PLEASE bring back architecture like this stunningly beautiful train depot? I miss when builders had skill and cared about the quality of what they built.

Now, regarding Chicago: how the hell do y’all ever get any rest? Seriously, noisiest city I’ve ever been to in my 52 years of life. The people never stop and shut up. It’s exhausting.

Not sure I’ll ever go back, for that very reason. Too loud, all the time.

Today, I’m just feeling ME. This month I turn 50 with 3 years experience, and I’m damn proud of all those years.

I worked way too hard to get through all the things to this very day right here, and I make no apologies for any of it. I learned, I fu**ed up, I learned some more, I did better.

And now, I’m here. I’m still learning and making plenty of mistakes, but as long as I keep learning and moving forward, I’m good.
