Petaccio Driving School, LLC is a state certified private driver training school based in Royersford, PA. We are a small company that believes the most effective way to teach an inexperienced driver is with lots of personal attention.

Petaccio’s Driving School, in Royersford PA, is hiring a (approximately 20-30 hours per week) weekday Driving Instructor. No previous experience is required, but it is preferred. Applicants must enjoy working with teens, be sociable, patient, friendly, and professional (in both attitude and appearance). The position is Monday – Friday afternoons. All applicants must be independent, self-motivated, responsible, and reliable. We are interested in long term employees, as the hiring and training process is time-consuming. We do offer paid training. This is a position that is challenging, fun, and rewarding. You will have a job that literally saves lives every day.

Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid PA Driver’s License with no at fault accidents or citations for 5 years.
• Cell phone with texting and internet capabilities.
• Successfully complete a state mandated test.
• Ability to sit in a car for long periods of time while teaching.
• Must be at least 21 years of age (PA Department of Education requirement).
• After being hired you must be able to maintain availability that was discussed during the interview.
• Pass the DMV driving test.
• Complete the approximately 20-40 hours of paid training required.
• Must have personal, reliable transportation to the office.
• Must be able to successfully pass all required clearances:
o Federal Criminal History Record.
o Childline Clearance.
o PA State Police Background Check.
o 3 Year Driving Abstract (must be clean).
• At least 3 professional references with daytime phone numbers.

Dear Clients,
I’m writing to you today in response to the Channel 6 Investigative Report which aired on January 9, 2023. Please rest assured that Petaccio’s Driving School is in full compliance with all PA Department of Education requirements. All of our instructors are fully certified by the state and background checks are completed. Additionally, we pull all instructors and employees State Police Background checks every January. We also have all instructors and examiners redo their FBI Fingerprint check, PA Childline, and their driving record reports every 3 years. These three additional reports are not required by the state, but I feel as if it is a best practice to complete these periodically. Also, all of our vehicles either have dash cameras installed or are in the process of having them installed. All vehicles will have fully operational cameras by April of this year. Again, this is not required by the state, but I believe it is a good practice. Additionally, all our instructors are fully trained. In addition to passing PA Department of Education testing and PennDOT testing, all instructors are personally trained by me and I ensure that they are ready to teach your child before I put them in the vehicle to train. As a matter of fact, I have had several people go through the entire process and then at the end I was not comfortable with their abilities and had to terminate their employment. Safety is my number one concern when it comes to training your child.
The report referenced above does outline several long-term systemic flaws concerning the administration of the driving school industry in Pennsylvania by our state government. Many of the issues highlighted in the report are items that responsible driving school owners, like myself, are trying to address. I’m a member and former treasurer of the Pennsylvania Association of Private Driving Schools, and we have been trying for years to address many of the issues mentioned in the report. I’m hoping that now, with the general public being made aware of these issues, that it may help to bring about much needed change in the industry.

Allowing your engine to run unnecessarily while your vehicle is stopped or parked wastes fuel and pollutes the air. In some cities, doing so is also against the law.

Excessive speed causes crashes and can "cost" you points in the point system states use to monitor your driving. Excessive speed also wastes fuel. Be responsible!

When passing a vehicle in the center lane of a highway that has three or more lanes of traffic traveling in the same direction, be careful of other vehicles passing on that vehicle's other side. They may wind up in your intended travel path.

Avoid using your high beams in heavy rain, sleet, or snow. Under such conditions, light is reflected back into your eyes, decreasing your ability to see.

Always leave yourself a path of escape -- a way to avoid a collision. Position your vehicle so that you always keep a margin of space around it.

Consider using cruise control when driving on the highway. Cruise control helps you maintain a constant speed, which improves gas mileage.

Aggressive driving, which includes driving too fast, tailgating, and weaving in and out of traffic, causes more than 50% of all motor vehicle crashes. Choosing not to practice this type of driving behavior will greatly reduce your risk of accident and injury.

Here are some ways to deal with the danger of nighttime glare:
- Do not look directly at the headlights of an oncoming car. Instead, look beyond them and direct your attention to the right edge of the roadway, keeping the approaching car in your peripheral vision.
- Reduce your speed if you are momentarily blinded by glare.
- Keep alert to possible glare situations that may arise, as on curved or hilly roadways. When you anticipate such a situation, turn your eyes slightly away from it, keeping it in your peripheral vision.
