Utah County 4-H had a great time showing off at the Utah County Fair. It was HOT, but it was also FUN!
Thanks to everyone who helped to put it on for these kids! ❤️

This last Tuesday evening, after trailering horses and girls to a horse show, unloading equipment and feed at the show, we fed and watered the horses that were staying the night, and I gathered up my kids and headed home for the night when I got a phone call. One of the girls still at the grounds with her horse had, had an accident and her horse was down and not getting up. They face timed me and the video showed a horseflat on her side, groaning and sweating. The girl and horse had been riding together when apparently the horse tripped and rolled all the way over the top of her rider. Miracle #1 rider has only a scraped elbow to show for her horse gymnastics.
I quickly grabbed my mom, called an emergency vet and went straight back to the rodeo grounds. Upon arrival the horse struggled to get up, struck the ground and collapsed back down. It looked like we would be going home with one less horse. We started to prepare the girls that there was a good chance that something was seriously wrong and that their horse may not be able to recover and would probably need to be put down. The vet arrived in less that 20 minutes which felt like 20 hours. The horse, clearly in shock, shaking and moaning, eyes closed, laying flat on her side.
The entire night while we were all watching and worrying over this horse, our horse community gathered around, adults and kids, watching and worrying over two little girls who were pleading to keep their horsey friend. It reminded me of my little girl prayers and the hope for a miracle.

The vet said later that on arrival he also believed something catastrophic had happened internally and he would have to put this horse down.
He took her vitals.
They were normal.
We asked her to get up. She did.
She staggered several feet and went back down. He gave her a muscle relaxant, anti-inflammatory meds, pain meds, steroids, and 30 minutes. The mare fell soundly asleep, snoring loudly, mouth open tongue hanging out.
The vet did a belly tap which showed everything normal.
Breathing, normal.
Heart rate, normal.
Gut sounds, normal.
Capillary refill, normal.
After half hour, we woke her up and with some effort, got her up. She was definitely feeling a little more relaxed. We pulled the trailer into the arena and she walked in. Took her to the vet hospital over night where she promptly took to eating and today, she's coming home. Miracle #2
And that's how, a horse and a couple little girls reminded me that God knows us, sees us and He really is a God of miracles.
