Yesterday, the Republican-controlled General Assembly doubled down on private school vouchers. This legislature has already driven North Carolina to 50th in the nation in per-student spending. Yesterday’s action will only make it worse.
This is ultimately about values. Republican leaders have chosen private schools over public ones, wealthy donors over working families, and corporations over kids — again.

Veteran educators are mentoring new teachers, leading teams, managing classrooms, and holding schools together, yet the new budget proposal leaves many of them behind. You cannot stabilize schools by replacing experienced educators every few years. Students deserve experienced teachers who can afford to stay.
