Art instruction. Liz Miller CDA, artist and educator,teaches classes in acrylics, watercolor, pastel, and mixed media.

Inspired by nature and the world around us. Liz Miller CDA has taught decorative painting in the Raleigh, NC area since 1985 teaching in person and on line workshops. Painting realistic style in acrylics is Liz's main focus, but she also enjoys creating and experimenting with water colors, pastels, color pencils, and mixed media including watercolor batik. The natural world and the challenge of creating small slices of nature are her inspirations: the play of light on objects, capturing movement and shape, the mood of a moment. The colors of nature and color combinations of nature are a constant inspiration. Liz teaches techniques and art theory along with her projects. Increasing painting knowledge and skill are encouraged in the classes. Liz has her BS in Nursing from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and her Master’s Degree in Dance Therapy from Hunter College in NYC. She has earned CDA, Certified Decorative Artist, status with the Society of Decorative Painting. She feels that sharing her artistic discoveries by teaching others is a natural progression, still providing for the mental and physical health of her students, through the creative art therapy of painting. Liz’s project articles have been published in The Decorative Painter, the journal for the Society of Decorative Painters, and other decorative painting journals.

We've made some changes here with our local class. Our class space at Creative Exchange is no longer available and we are going to miss them. However, we'll still be close by because we've moved next door at Main Street Collective.

We can still visit our friends at Creative Exchange and get ice cream. 😁

Our first class in our new location was last week and we're settling in. Plenty of space and good lightning.

Come visit us or better even, join us, and visit the Collective where you'll find lots of goodies.

I love the outdoors.The air, breezes, sounds, colors and layers.. Through art, I have learned to notice more of the nuances of nature, lights and darks, the quality of colors, distance and near, where the details are and what they are.
Having a husband who was a photographer has taught me a lot about creating a good photograph. Noting composition, lighting, what to include what to leave out. But you don't have to have a wonderful photograph to create a terrific painting.
Just keep the elements of design in mind.
Composition, line, variation,
Create something that means something to you.

I’ll be back to teach an in person class at Susan Harrell-Talleys in Mount Airy on Sat, Sept 19, 12 – 2p.
I hope that you’ll come join me if you are local.

We didn’t have an Aug class so in Sept we’ll work on the Mountain View, acrylic, 8x8” or 8x10", exploring brush techniques as requested.
All supplies are included as usual. Just come join the fun.

I'm getting painters asking about a class using Golden Open Acrylics. I'm learning about this wonderful paint and am new to it. I'd be glad to show you what I've learned.
Let me know if you are interested in a landscape class on Zoom using these paints.

I can't teach this design to begin, but we would paint another landscape or scene learning about the paints.
