I said I started this project, which I named "The Game" to find out the outcome of the rivalry between SS. Peter & Paul and St. Andrew. Here it is:

St. Andrew 24-24-1 PF 789 PA 562
SS. Peter & Paul 24-24-1 PF 562 PA 789

They played two times in 1920 and did not play each other in 1924. SS. Peter & Paul did not get a team up to play in the Catholic League.

The Valley Catholic League, Valley Parochial League, Valley Catholic Conference and than the Valley Parochial League ran from 1921 to 1968 with St. Andrew participated in every year while St. Mary dropped out two times and SS. Peter & Paul two times.
St. Andrew's record in the 48 year league play is:
151-80-14 PF 4264 PA 2522 winning 15 league titles.
SS. Peter & Paul's record in the 43 years in the league:
123-94-10 PF 3333 PA 2700 winning 10 league titles.

1968 was the last year of St. Andrew football. I covered the years from 1920 to 1968 and have posed every game between St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul. The game was the original reason i started to research to see if one team dominated the other in this rivalry. Next to Arthur Hill and Saginaw High, this game drew the biggest crowds. I started my research in 2005, slowly figuring out what I warned to accomplish. I let it slide for a few years then in 2010 I would spend hours at Hoyt Library, with trips to Flint and Bay City. I even went to Midland. I expanded this project to include every game from 1920 to 1968 that St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul played. I included St. Mary and St. Joseph when they were in the league with St. Andrew. With that said, I have every game of St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul and the every league they were in. It started with the Valley Catholic League, then Valley Parochial League, and Valley Catholic Conference. which ended in 1967. St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul moved back into the Valley Parochial League with St. Mary, St. Stephen and Bay City West Catholic.
I have every year with every game from 1920 to 1969 in a word format and can print out any season or load them on a thumb drive. I have done this to a few people that asked me.
with any project you have a goal. first mine was which team won the most games in the rivalry between St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul?
What team won the most titles from 1921 to 1968?
What team won the most games in league play?
What team won the most games in league and non-league games?
What team was named Mythical State Champion?
Who were the five best quarterbacks from St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul?
Who were the top scorers from St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul?
Who were the best coaches from St. Andrew and SS. Peter & Paul?
What do you know of Howard "Hick" Hanson?
When did St. Andrew first get a nickname?
How many names did St. Andrew have before they saddled on the Bulldogs?
How many nicknames did SS. Peter & Paul have before ending up as the Crusaders?
Who were the hardest hitting fullbacks from St. Andrew?
Who were the best halfbacks from St. Andrew?
Who were the hardest hitting fullbacks from SS. Peter & Paul?

Who were the best linemen from St. Andrew?
Who were the best defensive players form St. Andrew?
Who were the best linemen from SS. Peter & Paul?
Who were the best defensive players form SS. Peter & Paul?
Maybe you have a question. These questions are for your opinions on the players from both schools.
That's all for now. If you have questions, post them here. If you have some answers, post them here.

In deciding to use the St. Paul’s Seminary facilities as a new home for SS. Peter & Paul’s High School, the Diocese of Saginaw turned down an offer from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare to rent the seminary for use as a drug treatment center. The reported offer would have given the diocese $1.5 million in rent over a 10-year period. The seminary was attractive to HEW because of its large campus, modern structures and dormitory facilities. Accepting the offer may have eliminated, however, the diocese’s option on turning the seminary into an area-wide high school or restarting the seminary program.

8 SCHOOLS PLACE PLAYERS ON HONOR TEAM
The Saginaw News' Class B All-Area Team
SS. Peter & Paul Dominates With Four on First squad
SS. Peter & Paul's, the Class B area champion and second ranked team in the final AP state poll, dominates this year's Class B All-Area team with four selections on the first unit and two on the second.
On player from each of seven different schools fills out the first team, which features All-State quarterback Chris Boyd of the Crusaders in a backfield of Roy Burks, Midland Dow; Jim Rathje, Laker High; Terry Merchant, Ithaca and teammate Rick Breidenbach.
Crusader All-State selections: end Al Martin and tackle Bill Janetsky lead the All-Area offensive line of End George Kubiak, Carrollton; Sherwin Jordan, Buena Vista; Mark Fachting, St. Louis and Jim McCarthy, Alma.
Boyd, 5'10" and 185, combined a fine passing arm with a sturdy rushing attack at the quarterback spot. He also handled the "monster-man" or rover-back position on defense for the Crusaders.
He tossed 22 touchdown passes this season while completing 53 of 82 aerials for 1,120 yards. His three-year touchdown pass total is 58 with 2,840 yards gained. He rushed for 317 yards before sustaining a knee injury in the middle of the year and kicked 47 of 51 point after touchdown attempts his sophomore and junior seasons.
Martin, a first-class All-State selection in Class C last season, won a berth on the second unit in B this season. His Heroics include 11 touchdown passes in 35 receptions that covered 645 yards. He caught 83 passes for nearly 2,000 yards and scored 27 touchdowns through the air in three years as Boyd's favorite target.
Martin, 6'0" and 185, also was a tough defensive player on one of the area's top defensive squads and blocked two punts during the campaign.
Janetsky, 6'0" and 200, also earned second-team, AP All-State honors at the center spot though he was a tackle in order to find room for the talented lineman on the squad.
He could always be counted on to give that necessary block and freed Crusader runners 11 times with the key block on touchdown runs. His side of the line was called on about 75 percent of the time on rushing plays and was not consistently handled by any opposing offensive linemen during the season.
Breidenbach, 5'9" and 170, has been the key runner in the Crusader attack over the past few seasons and is one of the best runners to ever come out of the parochial ranks. He scored 14 touchdowns this season and gained 872 yards in addition to grabbing two touchdown passes. He scored 15 touchdowns and gained 1,030 yards last season.
Burks, the only junior on the squad, led a solid Dow team that handed Mount Pleasant its only loss of the season. He performed both ways but was the strongest on offense where he gained 1,197 yards rushing in 156 carries, caught 20 passes for 227 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. He was credited with 61 tackles and five interceptions.
Laker's Rathje, 6'0" and 198, scored 12 touchdowns and 18 two-point conversions for 90 points this season and gained 1,134 yards in 153 carries. He caught 14 passes for 162 yards and retuned kickoffs for a 28.0 average. His defensive stats read 63 tackles, two pass interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Merchant of Ithaca, 5'11" and 180, gained 731 yards in 127 carries, caught 13 passes for 217 yards and scored five touchdowns. He passed for 524 yards and three touchdowns, returned eight punts for 141 yards and one score and returned nine kickoffs for 253 yards. He was given credit for 30 tackles at the defensive safety spot.
Carrollton's Kubiak, 6'1" and 180, handles the other end spot for his duty as pass receiver as well as tackle. He scored big at the end of the season with two touchdowns each against Oscoda and Tawas and finished the year with 32 points.
St. Louis' Fachting pushed his 5'8', 165-pound frame around quite well this season while harassing opposing quarterbacks and ball carriers. He was credited with 144 tackles while performing at middle guard for the Panthers. He also was rated as one of the top blockers in the area while handling a guard spot on offense.
McCarthy of Alma, 5'10" and 185, is the premier center on the star-studded squad. He was instrumental in Alma's running game that made most of its progress through the center of the line, which was ably handled by McCarthy. He was equally strong on pass protection.
Jordan, 5'9" and 175, was a demon on defense for the Knights and shut of the middle to some of the finest runners in the area from the White Pine Conference. He also was deemed a strong blocker at guard for the Knights and was selected to the All-White Pine team.
The second team backfield is strong with quarterback Craig Beard of St. Louis; Felton Woods, Buena Vista; Jim Apley, Bad Axe and Mike Anderson, Chesaning.
The second unit line includes ends Steve Nigg, Caro, and SS. Peter & Paul's Jim Reynolds. The interior line consists of Sid Hull, Ithaca, Peter O'Toole, SS. Peter & Paul; Chris Busche, Clare; Mark Schubel, Caro and Craig Bernthal of Bad Axe.

CLASS C ALL-AREA TEAM STAR-STUDDED
The Saginaw News' Class C All-Area Team
Every Member of First Team Received All-State Mention
Czelada was an All-Area first team choice last year as a lineman and repeated this year as a back. He led Akron-Fairgrove Western Thumb Association champions in scoring with 52 points and averaged 5.5 yards rushing. Czelada handled the punting chores for the Vikings and averaged 33 yards a boot. A tough all-around player, Czelada was extremely strong on defense and was in on 131 tackles, including 84 solos, for the season.
Rick Franz, 210-pound senior, an outstanding center on offense, played end on defense where he averaged six solo tackles a contest.
George was the defensive captain of the Freeland team that finished with an 8-1-0 record. He had 54 unassisted tackles and was in on 24 gang tackles. George, who called the defensive signals for the Falcons, recovered three fumbles during the season. He is a fierce blocker on offense and the Falcons scored 11 touchdowns over his position this season.
Baumann, 170-pound senior, is a three-year regular who played on two conference championship teams at Hemlock. A guard on offense, Baumann also sparkled on defense where he came up with 104 tackles and several pass interceptions.
Wood, big 275-pound senior, showed good moves for his size on both offense and defense and was particularly tough at middle guard on a Merrill team that came up with a fine 5-1-2 record for the season.
Dale Weiss was another fine two-way competitor for Coach Budd Tompkins's Frankenmuth powerhouse. Weiss, 195-pound senior, gained 1,120 yards rushing and scored 90 points. He recovered four fumbles from the defensive end position.
Weber was one of the unsung members of the Frankenmuth team but he showed great pass-catching ability at the split end position. Weber, 180-pound senior, hauled in 29 passes good for 435 yards and five touchdown. He also showed defensive ability by intercepting two enemy aerials.
The second unit also is loaded with talent and any coach would be happy to have a member of this team on his squad. The ends are Rick List of Frankenmuth and Dan Donohue of Freeland, a pair of competitors with impressive credentials, while Tom Sieggreen of Freeland, Terry Fuller of St. Charles, Steve Polzin of St. Stephen, Lee Russell of Akron-Fairgrove and Larry Lethorn of Shepherd, man the interior line positions.
Chip Weiss of Frankenmuth is the second-team quarterback with Jim Maine of St. Stephen, Steve Ballien of Freeland, Dan Roosa of Sanford-Meridian and Barry Gifford of Merrill at the running backs.

UPI PICKS BOYD, MARTIN
By United Press International
Second ranked Saginaw SS. Peter & Paul and fifth-ranked Allegan dominate Michigan's Class B All-State team announced today by United Press International with two members each on the squad.
End Al Martin, who made the Class C All-State team a year ago, made the rest of his team and was joined by quarterback Chris Boyd from the tough Saginaw school.
Allegan placed tackle Larry Spaman and center Steve Melvin to leave only seven spots for the other schools in the state to fight over. More than 300 high school coaches plus Michigan sports editors and sportscasters picked the squad.
Also on the team from a year ago was end Tom Devine of Jackson Lumen Christi, who also was selected as UPI's Prep Player of the Year in 1968. Whether he repeats will be announced Friday.
Cadillac's Tony Maddox able filled the other tackle spot while Ray Nester of Mount Clemens Clintondale and Tom Pfoetenhauer of Gladstone were picked as the guards. Joining Boyd in the backfield were Bob Noe of Big Rapids, Doug Jarrett of Kalamazoo. Jarrett and Bill Parker of Lansing Gabriels.
Martin, 6'1" and 185 pounds, played tight end in a pro set offense for SS. Peter & Paul. In his three years as a starter, not one touchdown went over his position. He also hauled in 83 passes in that time, for 1,674 yards and 27 touchdowns.
Young Boyd, who's father, Leo, coaches the team, is a 5'10", 185-pounder who also played the monster man on defense. His three-year credentials show 161 completions for 2,910 yards and 58 touchdowns. Boyd passed for 1,130 yards in his senior year and flipped 22 touchdown tosses.
"These boys played regular three years on teams which lost only one game over that period," coach Boyd said.

LOAR, MUNGER 'C' ALL-STATE
By United Press International
"If it can be said that age improves everything, then this is sure true of mark."
That is Manistee Catholic Central Coach Jake Ciccono's remark concerning Mark Niesen, his two-time All-State quarterback, but it also applies with equal veracity to the remainder of the Michigan Class C dream team, announced today by United Press International.
Niesen is the quarterback for the second straight year and John Brown of St. Ignace retained his spot at a halfback position on the All-State squad. The lone junior from last year not to repeat was end Al Martin of Saginaw SS. Peter & Paul, reclassified to "B' this year.
These two fine athletes are joined by ends Ray Bray of Norway and Dave Wood of battle Creek St. Philip, tackles Berny Blough of Middleville and Pepper Colvin of Berrien Springs, guards Dana Andrews of Battle Creek St. Philip and Kevin Rariden of Flint St. Michael, center Pat Wichsall of Traverse City St. Francis, plus halfback Ralph Munger of Frankenmuth and Beaverton's superlative defensive end - fullback, Mike Loar.
Niesen is the force that would make this team go if was ever assembled. The 6'0", 185-pound multiple sport star took Manistee Catholic to a 23-1-1 record during his three years behind center topping it of f when his team was named No. 1 in Class C on the last ballot of the season.
Niesen accounted for 15 touchdowns and a dozen extra points this year, manipulating the option play for 1,040 yards rushing and 1,080 passing - and he did it all with his left hand! Even if he is a southpaw, though, a lot of colleges are interested in what this youngster could do for them for a few seasons.
"Perhaps his greatest asset is the quickness of his hands," Ciccone says, "both on fakes and passing release. Mark is fantastic on the option play."
Niesen totaled 302 points during his prep career, with 42 touchdowns and 39 two-point conversions. He hit 56 per cent of his passes for 3,185 yards and 36 touchdowns. His career rushing average of 7.1 netted him 3,360 yards. Niesen also averaged six tackles per game from his defensive safety spot and intercepted a total of 12 passes.
Brown was an even better runner this year than he was in winning All-State honors last year. The St. Ignace star is only 5'7' and 180 pounds but he rushed for 1,378 yards on 172 carries with 17 scores and 14 two-point conversions.
The fleet two-way star, who had 50 tackles from linebacker, gained 2,905 yards and scored 47 touchdowns in three years for Jerry Gallagpher. His 343 career points is now a new St. Ignace record.
Munger paced second-ranked Frankenmuth, which was 26-1-0 the last three years, with 720 yards on 111 rushing attempts. The 5'10", 165-pound piece of mercury also added 12 pass receptions for 377 yards and nine of his 16 touchdowns came on runs which ranged in length from 51 to 96 yards - which means an awful lot of Frankenmuth opponents got a good look at the back of his jersey.
Loar was named at the fullback spot for his 1,150 yards in 120 carries but Coach Jim Colville of Central Michigan said the Beaverton star "is really outstanding as a defensive end." The 6'1", 190-pounder led his team in tackles from that position.
Of Battle Creek St. Philip's stars, the 6'2", 220-pound Andrews opened holes which Bill Cosby's Fat Albert could have gotten through without touching anyone while the slender end, Wood, snatched 37 passes and took his 6'4", 180-pounds 759 yards. Five times Wood crossed the end zone fruitfully. The end also stole five passes on defense and was the punter on Coach Mike Hume's 8-1-0, fifth-ranked team.
One of the teams St. Philip beat was seventh-ranked Middleville, which seems to come up with an All-Stater, every year. Coach Bob White's star this year was 6'2" Berny Blough. The agile 245-pound two-way performer carries a B-plus average and was a three-year starter.
Colvin was described as "one of the very best tackles in Southwest Michigan," by Dennis Steele of Bloomingdale. Eau Claires' Joe Maxwell said "we only scrimmaged against this 6'1", 215-pounder - but he's the quickest defensive player we saw."
Rariden, 6'0", 190-pounds, led third-ranked St. Michael's of Flint to a perfect 9-0-0 season and is "one of the best linemen in the state in any class," according to jack Pratt of Flint St. Matthew. "A must on All-State."
Bray, 6'2", and 210 pounds, came within a vote of being named Upper Peninsula Lineman of the year. He played some quarterback and wingback during his sophomore and junior years, becoming a 90-tackle man as a switching linebacker during the past season for Norway.
The 6'2", 220-pound Wicksall was considered one of the best defensive tackles in Northern Lower Michigan for Gene Leonard of Traverse City St. Francis.
