A moment from Karate USA days…

Looking back, leadership lessons were being built every night:
– You lead yourself first
– Clarity beats intensity
– Consistency builds trust
– Standards matter
– Not everyone will like you—and that’s okay
– Your job is to develop others

Good memories. Better lessons.

Quick question…

If someone grabbed your wrist right now—would you know exactly what to do?

Not what you think might work…

What you KNOW works?

I’m covering that this Saturday at noon.
A few spots left...

STILL DANGEROUS: Real-World Self-Defense After 40

Good Morning!

I’m hosting a small, hands-on self-defense workshop for adults.

This is not sport karate.
This is simple, practical, real-world protection.

If you’ve ever wondered:

What would I do if someone grabbed me?
Could I protect myself today?
Am I as capable as I used to be?

This is for you.

We’ll cover:
✔ Simple grab releases that actually work
✔ What to do if someone gets hold of you
✔ How to create space and get out safely
✔ Awareness skills to avoid trouble before it starts

No experience needed. No high fitness level required.

📅 Saturday, March 28 at 12 Noon

Some former Karate USA students might remember this drill.

I’m starting a short series called Black Belt Basics and the first technique is the reverse punch — one of the fundamentals we practiced thousands of times.

If you're interested in getting moving again, I started a group called Karate USA – 2nd Chances.

Most people think karate is for the young. It’s not.
In fact, when I started the only kids in class were along with their mom or dad, (and they were expected to act like an adult.) The Karate Kid changed all of that, and for the better in my opinion.
However, martial arts were not designed as a kids' activity, far from it. Actually, it had to be 'softened' a bit, turning the focus from 'self-protection' to 'self-improvement.'
As an instructor, I often heard parents saying, 'This is great! I wish I could this too, I just don't have the time...'
If you can 'carve out' 10 minutes a day - we'll get you started. You don’t need to be in shape. You start… and you get in shape.
Karate USA – 2nd Chances
For adults who aren’t done yet.
Still going for it. Just wiser (hopefully!)
Click a 'like' for me if you think of it, you'll make this broken-down-old-karate-instructor's day!
Thanks for making it this far! Happy Friday! Life is Good!!

I never posted this final photo of Karate USA.

The mats, mirrors, pads, benches—and most importantly, the students—are all gone.

We had a good run. December 1, 2002 – October 1, 2025.

What started as a totally inadequate, temporary home went through two expansions and became our dojo for nearly a quarter century. From the leaky roof to the lousy parking lot, a lot of training—and a lot of life—happened here.

If you were one of the many students who trained in this space, I just want to say thank you for the memories.

🥋 The 3 Most Important Stretches for Those of Us Over 50

Getting older doesn’t mean slowing down—it means moving smarter.
Here are 3 stretches that keep your body strong, mobile, and pain-free:

1️⃣ Hip Flexor Stretch – Loosen tight hips and protect your lower back.

Tip: Kneel on one knee, tuck your pelvis slightly, and shift forward gently.

2️⃣ Hamstring Stretch – Keeps your stride smooth and prevents back tension.

Tip: Sit tall with one leg straight, reach forward until you feel a light pull.

3️⃣ Chest Opener – Fix that “tech neck” posture from years of sitting or driving.

Tip: Stand tall, clasp hands behind your back, and lift gently while opening the chest.

✅ Hold each for 20–30 seconds.
✅ Repeat twice a day—morning and night.
✅ Move slow. Breathe deep.

Remember: Flexibility = Freedom.
You’re not done—you’re just getting limber.

But seriously—if you’ve fallen off your routine, start small.
✅ 1 set of push-ups (even if it’s on the wall)
✅ 1 set of knee bends or squats
✅ 1 set of sit-ups, crunches, or a plank

The hardest part? Getting down on the floor.
The second hardest? Getting back up again.

That’s where I come in. 😉

As of October 1, 2025, I am retiring and not continuing my lease with Karate USA here in Green Bay. My thanks to all the great families that have attended our program over the last 2 1/2 decades. I wish you all nothing but a great future. CJ.
