I’ve gone from working on getting healthy to actually running. Now I’ve committed to Hood to Coast.

It’s going to test me. At 55, I’m ready for the challenge.

I’d love to have you behind me. Every donation supports patients and families through Providence.

Let’s do this.

Hood to Coast is getting real. The training miles are in. The team is committed. And our fundraising deadline is coming up fast.

We’re doing the running. Now we’re asking our community to help us finish the other part of the journey.

💰 Can’t make it? You can still support the Shell-Shocked Sprinters and the Providence Cancer Institute with a donation.

If you’ve been thinking, “I’ll do it later,” this is your nudge.

Donate. Share. Invite a friend. Come dance.

Every bit of support gets us closer to our goal.

🤠 Let’s get this team to the starting line—and make a difference along the way.

Have you ever noticed how some organizations always seem busy, yet very little actually gets done?

Most people blame time management.

I don’t think that’s the real problem.

More often than not, it’s a decision management problem.

When people don’t know what they’re authorized to decide, they hesitate. They wait for approval, schedule another meeting, or kick the issue up the chain because it feels safer than making the wrong call. Before long, everyone’s calendar is full, projects slow down, and frustration starts to build.

I’ve found that high-performing organizations don’t necessarily make decisions faster because they work harder. They make decisions faster because leaders have done the work of developing capable people, establishing clear expectations, and defining where decision-making authority begins and ends.

That’s what operational excellence looks like.

The goal isn’t to make people move faster. It’s to give them the confidence and clarity to make good decisions without feeling like they need permission every step of the way. When people know what’s expected of them and understand the boundaries of their authority, momentum replaces hesitation and progress becomes the norm instead of the exception.

I’ve never measured leadership by how many decisions I could make.

I’ve always measured it by how many people I could help become confident enough to make good decisions without me.

What’s one decision in your organization that could be delegated tomorrow if people had the right training and clear expectations?

Building People. Improving Performance.

I’ve been building something quietly for a while.

For more than 40 years, my mission has been simple:

Build capable people.

The tools have changed over the years—martial arts, anti-bullying, leadership, and personal development—but the mission has remained the same.

Im now accepting applications for the first 3 Charter Couples in the…

🔥TNT Protector Course.

This isn’t a tactical fantasy camp.

It’s for ordinary couples who want to become more capable, more prepared, and more confident in protecting themselves and the people they love.

We’ll cover practical, real-world skills including:

• Situational awareness
• Family protection strategies
• Emergency medical skills
• Communication under stress
• Practical self-defense
• Home and everyday preparedness

If you’ve followed me over the years, you’ve probably heard me say:

Confidence comes from competence.

That’s the foundation of this course.

🚨For this inaugural Charter Class, 100% of the enrollment fees will be donated to my Hood to Coast fundraiser benefiting the Providence Cancer Institute. 🚨

Hood to Coast teams have helped raise millions of dollars for cancer research over the years, and I’m proud to contribute in a way that combines a cause I believe in with the work I’ve dedicated my life to.

If becoming more capable while helping fight cancer resonates with you, you can support the fundraiser here. Every little bit helps!

https://orppm.give.providence.org/fundraiser/7318722

If you’re interested in becoming one of the 3 Charter Couples, send me a private message.

We’ll talk first.

🚫This course isn’t for everyone.

It’s for people who are willing to become more capable than they were yesterday.

Confidence comes from competence.

Who had the biggest impact on your growth, and what did they do differently than everyone else?

One of the most rewarding parts of owning a business for 25 years was watching people grow into roles they never thought they could handle.

I saw shy kids become confident young adults. I watched instructors step into leadership positions they once avoided because they didn’t believe they were ready. I saw employees develop skills that opened doors and created opportunities far beyond our organization.

Over time, I noticed that the people who grew the most were not always the most talented. In many cases, they were simply the people who had someone who believed in them before they believed in themselves.

A good leader does more than micro-manage performance. A good leader helps people recognize strengths they may not see yet. Sometimes all it takes is a little guidance, clear expectations, and a few meaningful successes before someone starts to see what they are truly capable of.

Looking back, some of the most important lessons I learned about leadership had very little to do with business. They had everything to do with helping people discover their own potential.

When that happens, performance improves naturally because confidence, ownership, and motivation tend to follow.

so...Who had the greatest positive impact on your development, and what did they do that made such a difference?

What’s a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in your career?

One thing I wish I’d learned earlier is that most people don’t need more pressure.

They need more clarity.

Over the years I coached students, developed instructors, managed staff, and built leaders. Early on, I assumed that if someone wasn’t performing, they needed more motivation.

What I eventually learned was that many people were already motivated.

They simply weren’t sure what success looked like.

When expectations became clearer, performance improved.

When coaching became more consistent, confidence increased.

When people experienced a few meaningful successes, momentum often followed.

Looking back, some of the best leadership lessons I learned had very little to do with leadership and everything to do with understanding people.

I’m curious about your experience.

What has had the greatest impact on employee performance, team development, or organizational culture in the environments where you’ve worked?

One of the things I enjoyed most during 25 years of business ownership was helping people grow.

That included staff, instructors, students, and eventually leaders who began mentoring others.

Over time, I noticed that many performance problems were not caused by a lack of ability. More often, they were caused by a lack of clarity.

People were uncertain about expectations. They were unsure what success looked like. In some cases, they wanted to do a good job but had never been given a clear picture of what “good” actually meant.

When expectations became clearer, performance usually improved.

When coaching became more consistent, confidence increased.

When people experienced a few meaningful successes, motivation often followed.

That observation changed the way I approached leadership.

Many organizations spend considerable time correcting mistakes after they occur. Far fewer invest the same effort in creating clarity before the work begins.

Whether I was developing instructors, training staff, or refining business operations, I found that clear expectations and consistent communication solved more problems than additional rules ever did.

Looking back, some of the most valuable lessons I learned from business ownership had very little to do with business. They had everything to do with people.
