The Counseling Department at Eastern Illinois University strives to be a premier program of training for master's level professional counselors through utilizing state-of-the-art technology, facilities, and research-based training practices. The Master of Science program available in Counseling is accredited by CACREP, the gold standard in counseling. Education in counseling can include specialization in fields such as marriage and family, substance abuse, behavioral, grief, and child counseling. Graduating from counseling programs can allow you to find employment in many of these fields and let you start your own counseling practice. Or you could work for hospitals, clinics, corporations, rehabilitation centers, schools, and have many other options over the course of your career. And many counselors are employed by non-profit organizations that serve underserved communities.
