☀️ CALIFORNIA HEATWAVE ALERT: High temperatures across California are set to continue through the weekend! 🌡️
As temperatures soar, protecting vulnerable seniors becomes a top priority. In older adults, dehydration and heat illness happen gradually and quietly—often well before someone feels thirsty.
Whether you're an RCFE Administrator, direct care staff, or caring for a loved one at home, keep these quick tips in mind this weekend:
🥤 Offer water proactively: Don't wait for seniors to ask for a drink. Offer small, frequent sips throughout the day.
🩺 Watch for early subtle signs: Mild confusion, sudden unsteadiness, dry mouth, or unusually dark urine can all point to early fluid loss.
🌡️ Monitor room temps closely: Keep indoor spaces cool, especially during peak afternoon heat and overnight.
📋 Follow a daily hydration check: Track fluid intake systematically across every shift rather than relying on memory.
Stay proactive, stay cool, and protect your residents!
