The Passing of Vinh Chung
Founder of KodokanGear.com • Member of the CCSF Judo Community
It is with deep sadness that the City College of San Francisco Judo Club announces the passing of Vinh Chung, a cherished member of our community, a devoted judoka, and the respected founder of KodokanGear.com. Vinh passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, craftsmanship, and unwavering dedication to the art of judo.
A lifelong practitioner, Vinh approached judo with quiet strength and humility. He trained not for recognition, but for the joy of learning, the value of discipline, and the bonds formed on the tatami. His presence in the CCSF dojo was always steady and uplifting, he was the person who arrived early to help set up, stayed late to support newcomers, and encouraged everyone with his calm smile and gentle humor.
Vinh’s passion for judo extended beyond practice. Through KodokanGear.com, he built a beloved small business that provided the judo community with high-quality uniforms, belts, and equipment. His attention to detail, commitment to excellence, and personal pride in every item he produced earned him respect both locally and nationally. For many, wearing gear from KodokanGear.com was more than just owning a product, it was carrying a piece of Vinh’s spirit, crafted with care by someone who truly understood judo.
More importantly, Vinh was known for his kindness. He was thoughtful, patient, and generous with his time. He supported countless CCSF students, parents, coaches, and club members, never asking for anything in return. His sincerity and gentle leadership made him a quiet pillar in our community.
While his passing leaves a profound emptiness, his impact will continue to live on through the people he inspired, the athletes he equipped, and the community he helped strengthen.
May he rest in peace.
