Did your lilacs finish blooming? Now is the time to prune.
Spring-blooming shrubs—like lilac, forsythia, weigela, viburnum, and others—set their flower buds the year before. Pruning at the right time is crucial to ensure plenty of blooms next season. If you prune too late, you risk removing next year's flowers.

Timing is everything in gardening, especially when it comes to pests.
But plants and insects don’t follow a calendar—they follow the weather. Warm weather speeds up their growth, while cooler temperatures slow things down.
Now that temperatures are consistently reaching 50°F, the clock has started for tracking “degree days.” Degree days offer a more reliable way to know when something will happen in your garden, instead of guessing based on calendar dates. Using degree days can help you take action at the right time, when pests are most vulnerable and plants are at key growth stages.
