Some highlights of the year:
- Frosh/Soph Boys AND Girls teams winning MVAL
- 3 new MVAL Finals records set from American athletes
- 3 MVAL All-League titles from American athletes
- 5 new school records set in the Boys 3200, Girls Pole Vault, Girls 4x800, Girls DMR, and Boys DMR
- Coach Javier, Coach Julian, and Coach Renee honored with Coach of the Year awards

Dear American High Cross Country and Track & Field athletes, family, supporters, and alumni,

As many of us know, Coach Danniel Ramirez and his wife, Michelle, celebrated the birth of their son, Teodoro, earlier this month. It is with a heavy heart that we share that four days after their baby was born, Michelle has passed away.

Coach Ramirez has been a part of the Cross Country and Track & Field coaching staff at American since 2018 and took over as head coach for Cross Country in 2019. During last year’s Track & Field season, he announced his plans to take a break from coaching in order to prepare for the arrival of their son. Michelle has been a huge supporter of Danniel’s work-life at American, his coaching career, and of American High runners. She would often times come to cross country meets to cheer on our athletes and has chaperoned multiple American High events with Danniel.

The American High Cross Country and Track & Field teams would like to extend their condolences and show support for Coach Ramirez and Michelle’s families. We have linked a GoFundMe campaign in honor of Michelle. Their family would like these donations to go to baby Teodoro’s future along with any costs their family has during this difficult time.

If you would like to share your personal condolences, we will also be signing and collecting cards to send to Coach Ramirez during next week's Cross Country practice at Quarry Lakes from 4-5:30 pm.

At this time, please respect Coach Ramirez’s privacy as he grieves with his family. If any students feel the need to talk to someone to process this tragic news, the coaching staff and school counselors are available at any time.

As we enter this new school year, please keep Coach Ramirez, Michelle, and baby Teodoro in your hearts and prayers.
