The Kingston Reds are Chartered Historic Military Command created by an Act of the Rhode Island General Assembly during the October 1775 Session. Being part of the 3rd Kings County Regiment of Militia during the American Revolution, the Kingston Reds were tasked with guarding the coast of Rhode Island and participated in combat at Little Rest Hill and the Battle of Rhode Island. Having been vacate

d in 1975 by an Act of the RI General Assembly due to dwindling numbers, the Charter of the Kingston Reds was reinstated on February 19, 2019. The Kingston Reds make their Headquarters at the General Nathanael Greene Homestead, utilizing the newly constructed Barn/Education Center as their armory. The Kingston Reds purpose is to
“To portray a historically accurate picture of the 18th century militia which military unit (Kingston Reds) was formed originally in 1775 to serve and protect our state during the Revolutionary War. To keep alive the historic traditions and preserve the records of their military achievements. To maintain and promote by example, respect for the flag, and constitutions both Federal and State. To educate the public about the 18th century New England history.”

As such, the Kingston Reds support the Gen. Nathanael Greene Homestead for all events on site, participate in parades and ceremonies, educational programs and living history events.

This past Sunday the Kingston Reds celebrated th founding of our country at the Nathanael Greene homestead! Members interacted with the public. And provided great knowledge to many. One of our members Kathy Kimmel Read the Declaration of Independence on the front steps of the 250 year old house Museum. Our Captain Paul Kocwanski led the men in a musket firing and out Lieutenant Colonel Brendan Mitchell Fired a mortar. All in all it was a wonderful day!
