Continuing with our weekly dedication to honor the struggles and successes of African Americans throughout U.S. history, this week we honor Gordon Parks.
Gordon Parks (Nov. 30, 1912 - March 7, 2006) was a photographer, director, author, poet, and composer. At a young age, Parks was fascinated with photography and taught himself how to use a camera. He developed his style to emphasize the discrimination and socioeconomic struggles of Americans. His works are now commemorated at major museums and multiple solo exhibitions have been dedicated to him.
