Gratitude was in bloom on September 19 at the College of Arts and Architecture's annual donor appreciation event, held this year in collaboration with Penn State Outreach. Dean Emerita Bobbi Korner received the Penn State Outreach Fischer Award of Distinction with her late husband, Jim. Thank you to our donors, and to our students, who showed how donor support is ! What happens when the city becomes the classroom? 🏙️

This summer, six Penn State students put their classroom knowledge to work through City Semester, completing internships with organizations making an impact across Pittsburgh.

For public relations major Olivia Woods, that meant using her communication skills at 412 Food Rescue while gaining a firsthand look at food insecurity. For landscape architecture student Kaitlyn Loomis, it meant biking Pittsburgh’s riverfronts with Riverlife, mapping amenities and applying technical skills she'd learned at Penn State to a real project.

Their experiences looked different, but both showed what can happen when students have the opportunity to take their education beyond the classroom — building skills, connections, confidence and inspiration along the way.

It's hands-on learning that helps prepare students for whatever comes next. 💙
