For July, we are spotlighting Lia Looram, a 2012 graduate who earned her undergraduate degree in Punlic Relations. Based in Bergenfield, NJ, Lia works as the Director of Marketing for Learn Fresh, a non-profit organization that partners with the MBA, MLB, and MLS to teach kids math through board games.!

❓MORE Q&A:

Q: How do you stay connected to your Filipino roots in your day-to-day life?
A: Just as a silly example, today we taught my son how to do Mano Po. He knows how to do beautiful eyes, which is like a milestone in our culture. I think especially now that I have a kid and he’s half Filipino, it’s very important to me that I still instill all of those values and that he really knows about his culture.Making sure he gets to experience everything that I grew up with is my way of staying connected to my culture. Making sure I’m passing down all those things that I loved growing up and making sure he doesn’t lose sight of that.

Q: What’s something about your life right now that your college self would be surprised by?
A: My college self would be surprised by how I’m handling motherhood. I’ve always been a type A person, very organized and sometimes a little bit controlling. For me, when I was pregnant you have these ideas of the type of mom that you’re going to be. It’s such a wild ride and a huge life change and transition. I find myself now a little bit more flexible in that regard. I find that some days you have to take things as they go. Ideally you’d want them to be on some sort of rigid schedule but if things don’t go that way it’s okay. I think she would be surprised that I’m more laid back and go with the flow even with something as raising a literal human. But I’m very proud of myself too, about the person that I’ve been not just with my career but also with being a first time mom. I think she’d be surprised with how I’m handling such a big transition and life change but also she would also be very proud that I’m doing it so well.

But haven’t you HEARD?! 🗣️

It’s Lizzy Agravante and Rena Park for our Co-DEAs! While Lizzy’s connecting you to District 5 of FIND, Inc. (our intercollegiate pamilya), Rena’s working with Paul Robeson Cultural Center (PRCC) to keep you in the loop on-campus! Outreach and connection are what they hope to bring and we can’t wait for another year of bringing our community together! 🫂

Q: Favorite PSFA memory?
Lizzy: Acting as Ash for Barrio ‘26!
Rena: The entirety of April ‘26; Barrio, Pusit Games, PRCC Pep Rally, Senior Sendoffs, & getting closer to people in PSFA!

Q: What do you look forward to this year?
Lizzy: To modern it up at Barrio again!!!
Rena: Everything because PSFA is so awesome and cool ;)

Q: Why did you pick this position?
Lizzy: To introduce/bring more of the PSFAm to our amazing filipino community outside Penn State’s borders!! District 5 and other orgs have brought me the most amazing friends and connections; I can’t wait to continue to spread that love to the PSFAm!!!
Rena: Being Co-DEA allows me to help create a sense of community so that new and returning members feel connected to both PSFA and other organizations at Penn State!
