The primary objective of the NROTC Program is to qualify students for appointments as Ensigns in the Navy or Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps by providing:

a. An understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of Naval Science. A basic understanding of associated professional knowledge. An appreciation of the requirements for national security. A strong sense of personal integrity,

Today’s is our Operations Officer, MIDN Grace Forish!

MIDN Forish is a Mechanical Engineering major from Colfax, North Carolina. She will begin her career after graduation in Pensacola as a Student Naval Flight Officer!

MIDN Forish also had the opportunity to represent as a dancer for THON!

Our today is our XO, MIDN Phillips!

MIDN Phillips hails from Clarksburg, Maryland and is studying Applied Statistics at Penn State. After commissioning in May, he will be heading down to Pensacola to begin his career as a Student Naval Aviator!

I’m addition to helping MIDN Sandt lead the this semester, MIDN Phillips umpires for PIAA Baseball and plays trumpet for the Roar! Brass Band!

It’s weekend!!! Two of the ’s own - MIDN McKernan and Forish - will dance this weekend at Penn State’s 46hr dance marathon!

Our THON organization, Operation Blue and Gold () has worked all year raising money to help fight childhood cancer and we aren’t done yet!!

3/C MIDN toured the Penn State West Steam Plant this week after learning about thermodynamics and steam systems in their Naval Engineering Systems course this semester.

Special thanks to Mr. Tim Patterson, a former Navy nuclear Sailor and the current supervisor of operations and maintenance for Penn State Steam Services, for his time in helping our students develop into naval officers.

The February Navy Option MIDN of the month is MIDN 4/C Connor White! MIDN White was selected for his exceptional professionalism and leadership ability during Battalion PTs and among his peers.

Currently in his second semester at Penn State, Midshipman White studies Mechanical Engineering and is an active member of the Aviation Club, Operation Blue and Gold, and gives back to his community as a volunteer firefighter. Once commissioned, he wants to become a Naval Aviator. MIDN White has been recognized as a stand-out member of the Battalion that embodies the Navy’s core values of honor, courage, and commitment.

The would like to thank Notre Dame NROTC ( ) for putting on an excellent Naval Leadership Weekend 2023! The MIDN who were able to attend heard amazing perspectives from both enlisted and commissioned personnel across the US Navy and US Marine Corps.

The February USMC Option MIDN of the month is MIDN 2/C Philip Rosenthal! MIDN Rosenthal is studying Energy Business and Finance and wants to branch Infantry. He was chosen for his outstanding leadership and involvement both for the Battalion and the Penn State community as a whole.

Outside of the Battalion, he is a member of Penn State’s EBF Society, the Happy Valley VC, and volunteers at Alpha Volunteer Fire Company. He demonstrates outstanding physical performance and excels at his role as Alpha Company 1st Sgt this semester.

The November Navy Option MIDN of the month is MIDN McAdams! He was selected for his superior performance this semester as C-1 Platoon Sergeant as well as his perfect score on the official PRT this semester, clocking a 8:02 on the 1.5 mile run!
