The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Penn State is a membership-based, volunteer-driven organization that offers members of the community —age 50 years and better — the opportunity to learn, explore, and connect with other curious adults. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for mature learners by providing educational and social enrichment opportunities that accentuate the joy of learning and personal fulfillment. OLLI travelers enjoyed a memorable adventure exploring the beauty, history, and charm of Québec!

From picturesque streets and historic landmarks to French-Canadian culture and delicious local cuisine, the group experienced the unique character of this fascinating region. Along the way, they made new memories, shared plenty of laughs, and enjoyed the fun of discovering somewhere new together. What a wonderful way to learn, explore, and connect with fellow OLLI members!

OLLI Gives Back! A big thank you to the 16 OLLI volunteers who rolled up their sleeves for the 32nd annual United Way Day of Caring on October 1!

Celebrating our sixth year of participation, OLLI volunteers spent the day at Centre Furnace Mansion, helping with light gardening and dusting inside the historic mansion. It was a wonderful opportunity to work alongside fellow OLLI members, care for an important piece of our community’s history, and give back.

We’re grateful to everyone who donated their time and energy to make a difference. Thank you for helping OLLI make a positive impact in our community!

🐝 We’re spelling champions! 🐝

OLLI at Penn State was proud to sponsor the Mid-State Literacy Council’s 27th Annual Community Spelling Bee—and our very own team, the SLAY-BEES, took home the championship! 🏆

Out of 12 teams, Mary Slaby, John Slaby and Melissa Runz spelled their way to the top!

Congratulations to our winning team on an amazing performance, and thank you to the Mid-State Literacy Council for bringing our community together for a fun evening supporting literacy!

The OLLI Outdoor Art Group held a special showing and reception last evening, with more than 50 members gathering to enjoy the artwork displayed in the OLLI office.

The group brought together two wonderful passions: art and the outdoors. Members found inspiration in landscapes, gardens, trees, flowers, architecture, wildlife, changing light, and the everyday beauty around us.

Creating art outdoors means more than simply observing—it means experiencing the changing light, weather, seasons, and unexpected details. Each artist brought a unique perspective, reflected in the variety of work on display.

It was a wonderful evening of sharing creativity, learning from one another, and celebrating the joy of making art outdoors!

Last week, forty OLLI adventurers headed underground for a "field trip" full of fun, history, and geology! Participants in Into the Depths: Woodward Cave explored the fascinating formations of Woodward Cave while learning about local history and Pennsylvania geology.

From stalactites and stalagmites to stories from the past, it was a great day of learning, exploring, and having fun with fellow OLLI members!

OLLI members had a delightful time discovering the fascinating world of Penn State’s famous squirrels during “A Stroll with the Squirrel Whisperer: Secrets of the Penn State Squirrels.”

From the story of the eight eastern grey squirrels brought to campus in 1925 to the fearless, fluffy-tailed squirrels we know today, participants learned how these beloved campus residents became part of Penn State history—and how their story connects to the ecological history of Pennsylvania.

Led by “squirrel whisperer” Mary Krupa, the course combined a gentle stroll around the Old Main lawn with fascinating insights into squirrel behavior, abilities, and their unique relationship with the Penn State community.

Many thanks to the Community Engagement Committee and Volunteer Committee for organizing a day of decorating Jared Box lids as part of the "Break the Record" Jared Box Event, during which volunteers will pack 1,200 Jared Boxes in a single day—surpassing their current record of 1,000!

A big thank you to every OLLI volunteer who came out and shared your incredible artistic talents and words of encouragement! Your support and enthusiasm made a real difference.

A Look Into Centre County’s History!

OLLI members enjoyed an engaging course with instructors Bill Blair and Jackie Esposito, exploring the work of the Centre County Historical Society and touring the historic Centre Furnace Mansion. Participants discovered fascinating local stories and got a behind-the-scenes look at how historic documents and artifacts are preserved.
