If reading felt like a struggle this school year, summer can be a turning point.

One of the hardest things as a parent is watching your child work so hard and still feel frustrated, overwhelmed, or behind.

The truth is, struggling readers don't need more worksheets. They need someone to figure out what's getting in the way.

At I Heart Learning Academy, we start by understanding your child—their strengths, challenges, and how they learn best. Then we create a plan that helps skills click, confidence grow, and learning become less stressful.

We've seen so many students go from saying "I hate reading" to picking up books on their own and feeling proud of what they can do.

If you're wondering whether summer support would help your child, let's chat!

If your child’s STAAR reading score wasn’t what you hoped for, take a deep breath. You’re not alone — and it doesn’t mean they can’t catch up.

Summer is actually one of the best times to build reading skills because kids aren’t juggling homework, tests, and long school days. With the right support, even a little focused practice can make a big difference in comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and confidence.

At I Heart Learning, our summer sessions are designed around your child’s specific needs in a fun, encouraging environment.

Whether your child needs extra support or just a little confidence boost before the new school year, we’d love to help them feel stronger and more prepared.

Before January Report Cards Come Home

We want parents to know this:
A report card does not measure your child’s intelligence, creativity, or potential.

For many dyslexic learners, grades reflect how well a child can work within a traditional system — not how capable they truly are. Struggles with reading, spelling, or writing often hide strengths like problem-solving, storytelling, empathy, and big-picture thinking.

If report cards raise more questions than answers, you’re not alone. Message us to learn how we support dyslexic learners with confidence and care.

Holiday Fun for Kids 🎄

Looking for a fun holiday activity that doesn’t feel like school? Try a Holiday Scavenger Hunt—a favorite at I Heart Learning Academy!

Instead of reading long lists, use pictures or simple icons (Santa 🎅, star ⭐, bell 🔔, reindeer 🦌). Kids search around the house or neighborhood, building confidence through play—not pressure.

✨ Why this works for kids with dyslexia:
• No reading stress
• Encourages movement and engagement
• Builds visual processing skills
• Allows kids to respond verbally instead of writing

Keep it light, joyful, and successful—because learning should feel good, especially during the holidays. 💙

When ADHD and Dyslexia Show Up Together 💙

Many children with dyslexia also have ADHD and when schools only address one, kids are often left feeling frustrated and misunderstood. The truth is, these learners thrive when both are supported together.

What helps most?

✔️ Short, structured lessons
✔️ Visual supports and hands-on learning
✔️ Strength-based teaching that builds confidence

Different brains don’t need “fixing” — they need the right approach. At I Heart Learning Academy, we see how targeted support can change not just reading skills, but how a child sees themselves.

https://dyslexiaaction.org.uk/2024/03/adhd-and-dyslexia-helping-children-thrive-in-school/

ADHD and dyslexia commonly co-occur in school age children and interact to make reading difficulties worse. Here are some strategies to help.

Dyslexia doesn’t just affect reading — it affects confidence.

When children are taught in ways that match how they learn, something powerful happens. They begin to trust themselves again. Their confidence grows, and that confidence reaches far beyond the classroom.

If your child is struggling, support is available — and progress is possible.

❤️Reach out to I Heart Learning to learn how we help children build skills, confidence, and a love for learning.
