Four VACT classes will be offered spring semester:

(1) "Foundations of Vacuum Science" (VACT 1010, 2 credits) - Fully-online class, 2 sections (one section is 16-weeks long AND the second section is 8-weeks long - both sections start the week of January 10th). This class is a great starting point for operators and technicians who want to develop the foundational math and chemistry knowledge that applies to Vacuum Technology.

(2) "Intro to Vacuum Technology (VACT 1292, 2 credits) - Synchronous course that meets in a Zoom session once a week over a 16-week semester. Class meets Tuesdays, starting on January 11th, from 3:30 - 5:20 pm Central Time (CT). This class is a great starting point for individuals who have previously completed college level algebra and a chemistry course that covers the gas laws. This class addresses the basic functions and operation of vacuum systems in the rough vacuum regime.

(3) "Vacuum Analysis and Troubleshooting (VACT 2293, 4 credits) - Synchronous course that meets in Zoom session once a week over a 16-week semester. Class meets Thursdays, starting on January 13th, from 3 - 6:50 pm CT. Pre-requisite is VACT 1292 OR previous completion of college algebra or higher, chemistry with gas laws, and physics. This class addresses the advanced functions and operation of vacuum systems in the high vacuum regime.

(4) "Thin Film Deposition" (VACT 2297, 3 credits) - Synchronous course that meets in a Zoom session once a week over a 16-week semester. Class meets Wednesdays, starting on January 12th, from 3 - 5:50 pm CT. Pre-requisite is VACT 1292. This class is useful for technicians with experience using vacuum systems and engineers who want to learn the fundamentals of how material is deposited using a vacuum system along with corresponding characterization techniques to evaluate material deposition.

Normandale Community College offers a technician education program in Vacuum and Thin Film Technology. 2-credit tuition waivers are currently offered to individuals who register for these classes and take the class for a grade.
