Statement on The Accusations against Fadel Alkilani:

Pride Alliance stands against the harassment of WashU students. Currently we move against the harassment of one student in particular by conservative media and WashU itself. We hold that WashU should be doing more to protect the safety of its students instead of contributing to attacks from conservative media and doing nothing about death threats leveled at Alkilani. It is ignorant to assume or state that 9/11 is not already a politicized event. 9/11, while tragic, lead to increased islamophobia in the United States. Alkilani stated such and that his intent with removing the flags was to place them on Mudd Field with statistics explaining the cost of 9/11 in the past twenty years. No flags were defaced, destroyed, or thrown away.

Regardless of events, we deplore the online harassment, death threats, and doxxing of this student. We also firmly hold that he should not face any disciplinary action greater than if he had erased chalk advertisements for SU elections. Pride Alliance Exec will continue to stay as up to date on what is happening with Alkilani as we can. We will keep Pride Alliance informed as new information comes to light and new events transpire.

WU condemns removal of 9/11 commemorative flags as SU vice president Alkilani defends actions amid calls for disciplinary measures The condemnation came as the president of the College Republicans called for Alkilani’s expulsion from the University or other punishment and as national conservative media outlets have picked up the story.

Hey, y'all, so tomorrow is Bi Visibility Day, which is celebrated all over the world on September 23 every year, and also the kick-off for Pride Alliance's Bi+ Visibility Week!

Since I'm bi, I just wanted to take a moment to talk personally to all the people following this page who fall under the bisexual umbrella.

I think I normally attend LGBTQ+ events with an attitude like, "it's an event, and I'm q***r, guess I'll go," but since I've been helping with the planning for Bi+ Visibility Week, I've been thinking about my bisexuality and what it actually means to me in a concrete way.

I think, to me, being bisexual has affected me in ways beyond just my attraction to people of all genders. It forced me to start questioning societal customs and also led me to a lot of friends who I love dearly, so in that way, even though I've never dated anyone, my bisexuality has made me a better and happier person, and it began as something in my life that I denied about myself, as something I didn't want to be. So, now, when I wave a pride flag, or when I see my friends being proud of their identities, it makes me really happy, that we can, in that moment, move past all the shame and hurt that other people wanted to put on us, and feel safe and happy about who we are and what it means to us.

So, basically, I hope that something that happens this week gives you that feeling of safety and happiness and solidarity, and however your sexual orientation has made an impact in your life, I hope you love that part of yourself.
