Traffic violence remains a serious challenge across St. Louis, but crash data tells only part of the story. As communities invest in safer infrastructure, adopt new transportation policies, and work together to improve mobility, understanding the broader transportation system is more important than ever.��

That’s why Trailnet has evolved its annual Crash Report into the State of Our Streets. This expanded publication examines crash trends alongside infrastructure projects, adopted plans, policy initiatives, and proven safety solutions shaping the future of transportation throughout St. Louis City and County.

In this report, you can view documents like the City’s Transportation and Mobility Plan, the Missouri Vulnerable Road User Safety Assessment, and MoDOT’s Blueprint for Arterials to give you a greater understanding of the tools that are informing better and safer street design.

You can also see crash data for both the City and County, and you’ll notice some striking similarities: speed is the biggest risk when it comes to whether or not a crash becomes deadly, and that most dangerous pedestrian crashes occur just beyond intersections. We also present examples of solutions, like pedestrian refuge islands, curb extensions, and more.

Everyone can take part in creating change. Our report gives actions you can take, like advocating for lower speed limits, attending open houses and public meetings for infrastructure projects share feedback, speaking at aldermanic or county council meetings about projects, supporting bike infrastructure, and more. The report points to infrastructure solutions and plans that can help shape specific asks as you advocate.
