MEET LUME

LUME's lab school is University City Children's Center. LUME Institute evolved from the values, philosophy, and methodologies embodied by our lab school University City Children's Center (UCCC), a non-profit, early childhood education center in St. Louis that for over 40 years has served as a transformative model of quality early care and education. Like UCCC, LUME’S Approach is to nur

Every organization has goals. The question is: how do we create the conditions for people to thrive while pursuing them?
LUME partners with schools, nonprofits, early childhood programs, and community organizations through:
✨ Leadership development
✨ Coaching & reflective partnering
✨ Retreat facilitation
✨ Conference presentations
✨ Organizational learning support
We don't just deliver training, we help people translate learning into lasting change.

One of the most rewarding parts of our work is helping partners see their story through both data and reflection.
Recently, we sat down with the team at University City Children's Center to reflect on a year of learning and growth. Together, we explored educator practices, changes in the learning environment, and outcomes reflected in children's development data.
The numbers matter. But what makes them meaningful is the story they tell.
Behind every data point is an educator who embraced new learning.
A classroom that became more intentional.
A child who experienced opportunities to thrive.
What stood out most was not a single data point—it was the collective story of commitment, reflection, and ongoing development across the center.
When data and reflection come together, they create an opportunity to celebrate progress, recognize strengths, and identify possibilities for continued growth.
Thank you to the team at University City Children's Center for their partnership and dedication to creating meaningful learning experiences for children every day.

The goal isn't to have all the answers. It's to remain open to learning.
At LUME, we view curiosity as a powerful tool for reflection, learning, and growth. Curiosity helps us move beyond judgment and into reflection, creating space for new insights, stronger relationships, and more meaningful change.
What is one question that curiosity has helped you ask recently?

Community building takes trust. People show up differently for themselves and others when they feel seen and supported in their community.
Coaching creates opportunities for accountability, reflection, and honest conversations within communities.

Community doesn't grow by accident! It grows when people gather around a shared purpose, something meaningful enough to pull them forward together. Coaching helps name that purpose, clarify it, and keeps it alive. When people see themselves inside a collective "why", belonging becomes real, not just something done for show.

Roxeanna at LUME served on The Early Educators Appreciation Event when it began recognizing and celebrating early educators in 2016 at the St. Louis Botanical Garden. Each year since, our collaborative committee—made up of eleven early childhood organizations—comes together to intentionally create an experience that reminds educators: you matter, your work is important, and you deserve to feel seen, valued, and prioritized.
On May 17, 2026, we had the privilege of returning to the Gardens to honor more than 275 early educator guests, celebrate 112 nominated educators, and recognize 5 award recipients. What a beautiful reflection of the incredible dedication, compassion, and impact happening across our St. Louis early childhood community every single day. While we were honored to spotlight those nominated, we wholeheartedly believe that every early educator deserves celebration and appreciation for the life-changing work they do.
What a beautiful room filled with extraordinary people. We are grateful for each of you and the difference you make in the lives of children and families.

The Butterfly Effect: A small act can have a ripple effect far beyond what we can see. It's a poetic way of capturing this truth: Our actions, no matter how small, carry weight.
We at LUME challenge you to create ripples of kindness around you this week and remind yourself that your presence matters.
