Delta College Possible Dream The Dream is that all Possible Dream Program scholars will graduate from high school and pursue a college education.

The Possible Dream Program at Delta College promotes academic achievement and provides higher education opportunities and career exploration experiences for students (grades 6-12) in Bay, Midland and Saginaw counties. The Possible Dream Program at Delta College promotes academic achievement, higher education opportunities and career exploration to academically promising students facing limitations

due to socioeconomic circumstances. Students are provided cultural and educational experiences that broaden their horizons, and are provided opportunities to explore higher education, college life and career pathways. Qualifying middle school students are nominated by teachers, counselors, administrators, family or community members and invited to apply for the program. Once students are inducted into the program, they are invited to participate in a variety of experiences, events, activities, and camps until they graduate from high school. The Possible Dream Program provides the means to explore an array of higher education pathways, but for those students choosing to attend Delta College, there are also Possible Dream Scholarship opportunities awarded.

Our Possible Dream scholars decided to "Take That Leap!" last week during our back-to-school event at the Urban Air Adventure Park. Students had an AMAZING time jumping into new experiences, climbing to new heights, pushing their limits and trusting themselves to just let go (zip-lining!) and have FUN. Participating students also received backpacks, school supplies and wireless earbuds to help them soar this upcoming school year! 🙌🤩📗

Possible Dream students recently visited The Zekelman Holocaust Memorial Center as a culminating experience for the Summer Book Study, where they elected to read “Night” by Elie Wiesel, or "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" by John Boyne. The visit provided not only powerful context to the subject matter of the novels, but also impactful insights on social justice and human rights through immersive exhibits, artifacts and personal stories. The shared stories included Second Generation speaker Arik Greene, the son of a Holocaust survivor. He shared the experiences of his extended family and his father's amazing story of survival as a child and teenager in Hungary during that time.

This week, some of our Possible Dream Scholars worked with representatives from the Mid-Michigan Technicians Group exploring Formulations, Forensic Science, and Aeronautical Experiences. Students used evidence to solve a crime, explored the daily routines of astronauts on the International Space Station, and utilized chemical compounds, formulas and reactions to launch rockets and even create their own sweet treat! 🔎🔬🚀

Possible Dream Launches with Lead! 🤩🚀
Last week, several of our Possible Dream high school students began a year-long partnership with the Lead - Nonprofit Program where they will grow their skills in: Overcoming Doubt & Building Confidence, Mastering Mindset & Daily Habits, and Clarity in Purpose & Goal Setting. The kick-off luncheon was hosted at the Delta College Planetarium, where students also enjoyed a presentation of "Spark: The Universe Within Us".

It was a "Suite" view for our Possible Dream Scholars as they cheered on the Great Lakes Loons to a 7-5 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps last Saturday. In addition to enjoying the game from some of the best seats in the stadium, students also experienced a behind-the-scenes tour of Dow Diamond and a chance to meet with staff and see the inter-workings of the organization. 🤩⚾️
