Great work at the 2015 Regional Competition High School Olympiads!

Plattsburgh High School’s A team (team Orange) took first place at the Science Olympiad Regional tournament held at Clarkson University! This marks our 7th straight win going back to 2009.

In total we brought 27 students forming two teams (Orange and Black) competing in 20 different science and technology events.

The 2014 Science Olympiad High School State competition has concluded!

We took 13th this year, up against 51 teams from all of NY State. There are no divisions or classes in Science Olympiad, so this is all of the top science schools in the state, grades 9-12! Our previous best was (14th in 2011 and 2013).

We won the "small school award" which goes to the best performing small school (under 1000, PHS is around 560!) that does not place in the top 10 (one other small school placed ahead of us, they got 5th). This is the third time we have received the award in the past 4 years.

We had an overwhelmingly higher number of students "medal" this year. I will post some more statistics when I have the complete results, but we placed in the top 3 in 7 events!

Only two other schools, the winning two schools (FM and Columbia), had more top three finishes than PHS!

We had three bronze, three silver, and 1 gold. Incredibly the 1 gold came from a Freshman pair competing on our team for the first time ever in the event "Entomology".

We had 6 seniors competing this year, all 6 of them received at least 1 medal!

For the third year in a row the Middle School Science Olympiad team won their Regional competition!

Hosted at SUNY Potsdam with a small field of 6 teams SMS had a narrow victory by only 2 points! The kids did a great job today, every one of the nine students took home a medal (top 3)!

Also, a shout out to Northeastern Clinton is well deserved, in their 1st year competing they brought home the third place trophy, awesome!

The Science Olympiad team did a GREAT job this weekend at states! I am very proud of everything they accomplished, we had some great performances and the kids, as usual, represented the North Country greatly!

Some things of awesomeness to take note on:

Walker and Jake took 1st place in Gravity Vehicle!!!

Walker and Jake took 2nd place in Magnetic Levitation!! This one was super cool, their vehicle worked so well the judges thought maybe our kids cheated! After a good five minutes of inspecting they gave our team the thumbs up, and you can clearly tell they were puzzled as to how they did so well!

Javier and Walker took 6th place for Elastic Launched Glider!

Javier and Lucas took 5th place for Boomilever!

These four events were our medalists, which is the most medals we have ever achieved at states!

We had 15 events place in the top 25!

The team took 14th overall, this matches our previous high from 2011. This year there were 51 teams in total.

We also won the small school award again this year (2nd time out of 5 years)!

Congratulations to the Stafford Middle School Olympiad team for winning your regional competition! You all did an incredible job! Now its time for the state competition in Syracuse on April 12th and 13th! Good luck!

A-Team 1st Place! B-Team 6th place!

We had our regional competition today! It was an incredible day, the kids did a great job, and for the fifth year in a row we won! Our A-Team came in first with 36 points, and our B-Team came in 6th.

The kids did an outstanding job and really represented PHS and Plattsburgh well! Check back later for pictures and videos!

Go to UNO on January 15th (Tuesday) and 20% of what you spend will go towards our Science Olympiad club! I have attached the flyer which you will need to bring with you to give us the 20%. Please share this with anyone you think will be interested in going to UNO and helping our club!
