Bishop Kellenberg, after speaking of the completion of the Maria Regina stated as the, “fulfillment of a need expressed by the people,” In his dedication speech on October 16, 1966, to the Maria Regina Diocesan High School Class of 1970 and all future graduates Bishop Kellenberg stated:

The hope of the harvest is in the seed. All of us have planted the seed – we can only hope and pray
that the ha

rvest in the years to come which our country, our community her on Long island,
our families, our churches will reap from this school, will be blessed and prosperous


When Maria Regina opened its doors in September of 1966, some 650 anxious freshmen were greeted by their principal, Father John Mullen, and assistant principals, Sister Jean Toolan, I.H.M. With the replacement of Sister Elise by Sister Terrence Dunne, O.P. Jack Gibbons as Administrative Assistant – what was said on the first day still holds true.
