At Sims Middle School, we're proud to see our football program teaching student-athletes about the importance of more than just touchdowns and tackles. 🏈👔

Every Wednesday, the team trades their jerseys for dress shirts and ties. The philosophy is simple: when you look better, you feel better—and when you feel better, you perform better, both in the classroom and in life.

That's why the annual "How to Tie a Tie" event is such a vital tradition for the program. Coaching student-athletes goes far beyond the scoreboard; it's about teaching essential life skills that lay the groundwork for these young men to grow into leaders, positive role models, and future husbands and fathers.

We're grateful for the coaches and mentors at Sims investing in our young men every single week! This is the kind of character-building education our district is committed to supporting.

❤️ MEET MRS. TREADWAY ❤️

Special Education Resource Teacher | Foster Park Elementary

Kimberly Treadway's teaching journey is a love story. And we mean that literally—she loves her students like they're her own children. 💕

Her Story:
Back in 4th grade, Mr. Terry Drum inspired Kimberly to become a teacher. Now, after 26 years in education, she's come full circle—teaching at the very school where she started her career in 1998. And get this: she's now teaching the children of her former students. Talk about legacy!

What Drives Her:
"I hope my students leave my classroom knowing they are loved most of all, and that I am a true cheerleader for them and always will be."

One student once told her, "I wish we had school on Saturday and Sunday. I want to come and learn every day. You make it so fun, Mrs. Treadway." That's the impact of showing up with your whole heart.

Going Beyond the Classroom:
When a family was grieving the loss of a loved one, Mrs. Treadway didn't just send a card. She showed up at their home with food, sat with the family, and played with the kids so the adults could handle arrangements. That student blossomed that year and made honor roll for the first time. She still remembers. Still thanks her.

The Truth:
"People remember what you say, but most importantly how you made them feel." Mrs. Treadway understands this deeply. She meets students where they are, believes in their potential, and reminds them: You can face any challenge because someone believes in you.

That person is Mrs. T. And she always will be. 🙌

🎓 MEET MORGAN BROM 🎓

Special Education - Academic Seminar 9-12 | Union County High School

Morgan is coming home. After being born and raised in Cherokee County, moving to Alabama at age 12, and spending years building his career in education, he's returned to the Upstate—and UCHS is lucky to have him. 💙

His Journey:
With 11 years in education under his belt, Morgan has worked in private facilities, middle school, and now high school. But he knew the high school environment was where his heart belonged. Watching students overcome challenges, grow in independence, and walk across the stage for their diploma? That's what keeps him going.

What He Brings:
"I want my students to feel valued, encouraged, and confident in their ability to learn and grow." Morgan creates classrooms where every student feels included and supported—and he means it. He's experienced navigating challenges firsthand (he lives with a neurological condition requiring monthly infusions), which has deepened his empathy and determination to help students succeed.

Outside the Classroom:

Foodie extraordinaire: He loves exploring international cuisines and experiencing different cultures through food 🌍
Card game champion: Don't challenge him to a card game—he has a competitive streak!
Active and adventurous: Fishing, traveling, concerts, and Roll Tide football (Go Bama! 🏈)
Community-minded: Volunteers with his church, plays church softball, and serves with the Shriners

His Philosophy:
"Challenges don't have to define your ability to succeed." Morgan believes in setting high expectations while providing the support students need to reach them. He's here to help every student recognize their own potential.

Welcome home, Morgan! Union County High is better because you're here. 🙌

💛 MEET MISTY SHETLEY 💛

Student Records Clerk | Monarch Elementary School

Misty will tell you she "just takes attendance." Don't believe her for a second. 😊

The Real Story:
Misty's title says "Student Records Clerk," but her job description is so much bigger. She's a cheerleader, a problem-solver, a shoulder to lean on, and apparently, an Uber driver when it matters most. One mom didn't have a ride to get her daughter to her 5K graduation—so Misty left work and picked them up off the side of the road. That's the MES way: everyone is welcome home.

What Keeps Her Coming Back:
After years as a PTO president at Monarch, Misty found her way into the district. Now she says MES is her "home" school—a place where everyone truly is welcome. And the proof is in the daily hugs: students line up every morning just to see her before class. That's not "just attendance." That's love.

Her Hidden Superpowers:

She became a mom figure to a parent who lost her own mother. Even after that family moved schools, Misty still checks on them. The mom tells her, "I love you. You've meant so much to me." 💕
She advocates fiercely for students and families, going far beyond her job description.
She handles it all with humor (even if she does mispronounce names at car line! 😄)
Her fuel? Alani's energy drinks, TikTok scrolling, and poolside Netflix binges—because she needs those recharge moments!

Her Growth:
When Misty arrived at MES, she was more defensive. But this school community changed her. "I don't have to be that way here," she says. Now she's less guarded and more open-hearted—and it shows.

Her Legacy:
"Someone who actually cared." That's it. That's the whole thing.

Her Advice:
"Get ready to do SO much more than attendance, but the payoff each day is pretty rewarding."

Misty Shetley proves that some of the most important work in a school happens at the front desk. 🙌

🎉 MEET MRS. GILSTRAP 🎉

6th Grade Honors Math | Sims Middle School

If Susan Gilstrap isn't teaching math, you'll find her planning the next big celebration! 🎂✨ She's basically a party planning wizard (seriously, she's planning her daughter's wedding right now and we're here for it!).

The Real Tea: ☕

Guilty Pleasure? Reruns of the classics—we're talking Melrose Place, Beverly Hills 90210, and Three's Company—all with a peanut butter snack. (She's a proud peanut butter-aholic! 🥜)
Superpower? A magical pink wand that instantly makes math click for students. (Honestly, we'd like to borrow that one!)
Karaoke Jam? "Nobody" by Sylvia—and bonus points if her brother Brian is there to duet "Ode to Billy Joe" with her! 🎤
Classroom Theme Song? "We're All in This Together" from High School Musical 🎵 Because in Ms. Gilstrap's class, you ARE all in this together!

Susan brings joy, celebration, and a whole lot of heart to 6th grade honors math. Her students are lucky to have her! 💜
