End of debate prelims…Sofia competed in 4 rounds as one of the best 30 debaters in Class 1 MSHSAA debate. She won at least 2 of her 8 decisions. I will update on this post when we have her final results. I’m so proud - Sofia’s goal was to win at least one debate decision and she has already doubled that with more decisions to come🤓 no matter what I know next years Captain has big shoes to fill and we will miss Sofia as much as we root for her in her college career! Congratulations!!! 🎊🍾

The 100th annual MSHSAA Speech & Debate tournament is in full swing. Debate day is today! We had our traditional Hibachi diner at Koi in Rolla on our way here last night and are one hour into the fist round of Debate for Sofia!! We have at least 3 more rounds of debate today and then hopefully semi and quarter finals tonight🤞

Tomorrow we continue with Individual Events and Tournament finals and awards!

Tonight was the first conference meet of this 2026 season and it was here at UHS. Union took 3rd place overall and had several individual awards…

Congratulations team!

The UHS Speech & Debate Team is sponsoring the 3rd annual Mystery Dinner benefitting the special education programs at our school. The show is written and performed by the students in the transition program and is a fun and exciting evening for all involved.

Dinner starts at 6pm in the UHS cafeteria and seating is limited to 64 people. The show is also featuring live music by the band Goretism.

The Union High School Speech and Debate team just returned from the 2025 MSHSAA Class 1 District 2 finals. All 5 of the team members who competed made it into the District finals. Here are the their ranks and each earned a Conference finalist medal for these:

Tyler Sibole - Conference Quarterfinalist - LD Debate
Sofia Murillo - 8th place - US Extemp
Taylor Meyer - 8th place - International Extemp

The following also will advance to State competition due to their District ranking…

Piper Swaller - 4th place - Poetry Reading
Hudson Bailey - 4th place - Humorous Interpretation
Hudson Bailey - 4th place - Storytelling

Next weekend these students will be competing in the NSDA National qualifier…great job and best of luck next week team!

The Annual Speech Tour of our district resumed today after a few years off. It was great to get out there and share the talents of our team members and hopefully inspire some future performers to join us❤️
