Get to know this week’s featured alum, Stephanie Mogg, from the Class of 2008!

Stephanie received an associates of arts degree from ECC before going on to complete her MBA with an emphasis in accounting, as well as a master’s degree in Teaching Business Education. Currently, she teaches business at Union High School! Previously, she worked in project management for a sports nutrition company and continues to work as a licensed CPA.

As a wife and mother of eight, life can be unpredictable and, at times, a little chaotic! She wouldn’t have it any other way, there’s always an adventure to be had and plenty of fun along the way. In her free time, she enjoys family game nights and getting lost in a good book. Her favorite classes at ECC were Psychology with Dr. Bill Cunningham, Biology with Kevin Dixon, and Theatre Appreciation with Grace Austin. Her connection to ECC runs deep, with her son now following in her footsteps as a student, and her daughter being involved in community theatre through our programs!

What better way to wrap up her story than with her own words? "East Central College is a staple of generational learning in our community and particularly within our home." 🎓 Thanks for sharing your story, Stephanie!

Meet this week's featured alum, Natalie Sterling! ✨

Natalie earned an Associate of Arts degree in Health Science from East Central College in 2018. She primarily attended the ECC Rolla Campus, where many of the teachers made their experience enjoyable. She mentioned some of her favorite professors were Laura Roselli Insall, Keith Pulles, and Tracy Mowery!

She is a devoted wife and mother of five beautiful children, as well as a passionate birth doula. As a birth doula she serve families in the Franklin, Crawford and St Louis County areas. She helps families through pregnancy and birth by providing educational, physical, and emotional support. On the weekend she enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, playing music, and cozy movie nights!

Her advice to students currently navigating college is, "It goes faster than you think! Stay focused and don’t be afraid to ask your teachers for help!" 🎓

Just two weeks from today, we’ll celebrate the start of our 2026-27 concert season at the ECC Music Season Kickoff Festival! 🎶

Join us Friday, Aug. 28, from 4:30-8:30 p.m. on the ECC Union campus quad for a free outdoor concert featuring Elayna Cusano, the Steve Leslie Band, and headliner The Playadors.

Food and drinks will be available. The annual festival also supports Metallica Scholars Initiative scholarships for ECC students in Advanced Manufacturing programs.

This week we're excited to feature East Central College alum, Katie Gaus! In this photo, she’s pictured with her fiancé, who she met right here at ECC. 💙

Katie earned an associate of arts degree from ECC in 2020. She enjoyed tutoring with friends from the softball and men’s soccer teams, where they built lasting friendships. During her time at ECC, she always enjoyed stopping by Deanne Fiedler's office and said she was always there to make sure the athletes were taken care of!

Currently, Katie works in oral surgery. She and her fiancé, Guy, also an ECC alum, recently bought their first home and are excited to tie the knot this October! 💍 In her free time she loves reading, spending time outdoors, and enjoying this exciting new chapter of life! They also have a cat named Gracie who always keeps them entertained. Her biggest adventure yet? A 10K snow trail run in below-freezing temperatures!

We’re so happy for Katie and Guy and wish them a lifetime of happiness! We’re glad their story started right here at ECC. ✨

You can find today's featured alum behind the front desk of the Donald R. & Barbara D. Means Library right here at East Central College. Meet Hannah Jolley! ✨

Hannah earned an Associate of Arts in Humanities with an emphasis in English from ECC in 2018. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in English from Central Methodist University in 2020, and completed a Master of Library and Information Science at the University of Missouri in 2024. She has worked at multiple public libraries since her first job as a shelver at a local library, and is currently working in the ECC Library!

Libraries are Hannah's home away from home and becoming a librarian has always been her biggest goal. Her favorite class at ECC is a toss up between Creative Writing with Josh Stroup or British Lit I &II with Dr. Bob Mahon! She said, "both classes really solidified my love and appreciation for the art of writing." The most adventurous thing she has ever done was study British Romanticism in Canterbury, Kent, England for 3 months! That trip was her first time on an airplane and she was doing it by herself with a group of college students she had never met before. She loves spending time with her newfoundland puppy, Hamlet, and enjoys a weekend full of watching horror films, playing PC games, and reading a good thriller or fantasy.

We're proud to have Hannah as part of the ECC Library team and look forward to seeing all she'll accomplish. 📚

This week's Featured Alum is someone who turned a love of learning into a career! 📚 Meet Beth Yaeger, an East Central College Class of 2001 graduate.

Beth graduated from ECC with an associate degree in elementary education. She continued her education on ECC campus through our partnership with Central Methodist University, where she earned a bachelors degree. After dedicating many years to education, she is now enjoying retirement while working as the Office Administrator for an insurance and real estate office. She is a proud mom of 2, who enjoys fishing, Chiefs football, traveling, crafting, and spending time with her family and dogs!

Looking back on her years at ECC, Beth shared, "I loved attending ECC and think of many fond memories while passing the campus if I'm in the area. I truly loved all my teachers and the one on one attention they gave to me as well as others to encourage our success. One of my favorite teachers was Mr. Kevin Dixon who was an excellent teacher. His lectures were very spot on and helped me to pass his class with excellent note taking & understanding. I was very fortunate to have many great teachers while attending there and went on to become an honor student and be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa."

Thank you, Beth, for sharing your journey and continuing to support the college. ECC played an important role in Beth's story, and it could be part of yours, too! ✨

Thank you to United Bank of Union and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Member Impact Fund for a $10,000 grant to the East Central College Foundation!

The funding will support the Foundation's Student Insecurity Fund, helping provide food and essential resources through the ECC Food Pantry and Food for Falcons program.

Together, we're helping remove barriers so students can focus on reaching their goals. 🎓
