Union Public Schools Talented and Gifted Program: SEEK

Our Union SEEK students enjoyed a fun day of Scrabble at this year’s ECTAG competition! Students put their vocabulary, strategy, and collaboration skills to work as they competed against other gifted students from across the region.

We’re proud of all our students who participated and represented Union SEEK so well. We're especially proud of our Union High School Team A, which earned the highest overall score of 506 points at the competition! What a great accomplishment!

Ole Miss and Northwest are offering a summer chess tournament. This is a rare tournament that will offer both Scholastic and adult sections so parents and their children can play at the same time.

Our fourth graders wrapped up the year by creating and editing persuasive video projects! 🎬

Some students developed commercials to advertise their own inventions, while others created public service announcements about topics they felt were important. Throughout the project, students practiced writing, planning, filming, editing, and presentation skills.

Wagons ho! Our third graders just wrapped up a pioneer/Oregon Trail unit, and we're excited to share what they've been up to!

🪵 WAGON TRAIL SIMULATION — Students traveled the Oregon Trail as wagon companies, making real decisions about resources, risks, and teamwork along the way.

🌻 SUNFLOWER PLANTING — Did you know sunflowers were cultivated by Native American peoples thousands of years before pioneers headed west? Our students learned about Indigenous agricultural contributions and then planted their own sunflower seeds. They decorated their pots with symbols of skills they've grown in this year — a personal touch that made this activity extra meaningful.

📜 PIONEER BIOS & TIMELINE — Students researched real people of westward expansion and created biographies that came together as a class timeline.

🪡 NINE-PATCH PILLOWS — Students used their knowledge of the elements of art to plan and begin sewing their own nine-patch pillows. Sewing takes real patience and focus, and they rose to the challenge!

We are proud of the curiosity, creativity, and perseverance these students have brought to every activity!

Our second graders learned about animals as they researched and created their own zoo books and Ozobot zoo!

Students used creativity, problem-solving, and research skills to create Ozobot paths that represented the behaviors of their animals in their “Ozozoo habitats.” We are proud of the hard work and learning that went into these projects!

Union SEEK students had a great time at ECTAG Art in the Park! They enjoyed viewing the ECTAG Art Show, watching the East Central Community College Collegians perform, and getting to see a little of the campus at East Central Community College.

We’re also proud to celebrate our Union SEEK students who placed in this year’s ECTAG Art Competition! 🎨 Congratulations to these students for their creativity and hard work.
