Human Rights Institute at Kean University raises awareness of human rights violations worldwide and Kean also offers an interdisciplinary M.A.

The mission of the Human Rights Institute at Kean University is to raise awareness of human rights violations worldwide and to inspire action to combat these injustices. The Human Rights Institute sponsors a broad range of activities, including seminars and conferences, and works with school districts to produce curricula and materials for students. in Holocaust & Genocide Studies degree that specifically studies the Holocaust, anti-Semitism, other Genocides and atrocities that human beings commit against each other.

This year, the Kean University community came together through a series of meaningful events made possible by the 9/11 Day Grant. Led by the Human Rights Institute and in partnership with several on-campus departments, school districts, and community organizations, these initiatives created opportunities for service, reflection, connection, and civic engagement.

Throughout each event, we were reminded that remembrance is not only about looking back, but also about carrying forward the values of kindness, compassion, human dignity, and service. Together, we turned remembrance into action and created opportunities to make a positive impact within our community.

We are incredibly grateful to 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps for supporting this initiative and helping make these experiences possible. Your partnership allowed the Kean community to come together in meaningful ways and continue the spirit of service.

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and helped bring these events to life. Together, we honor the past by serving our community, caring for one another, and building a more compassionate future.

Join the Human Rights Institute and The Galleries in the opening reception on Monday, September 28th at 5:30pm. Come experience the arist’s 1978 series of prints illustrating all thirty articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a statements of self determination inspired by our nation’s founding documents.

A huge thank you to all of our Kean Cougars who took the time to spread joy at yesterday’s Bloom with Kindness event!

Together, we wrote thoughtful messages of hope, encouragement, and kindness for children in Trinitas Regional Medical Center and helped prepare care packages to remind them that they are cared for, supported, and never alone. Every message, every package, and every small act of kindness can make a difference.

We are also incredibly grateful to 9/11 Day and AmeriCorps for helping fund a portion of our supplies and making this initiative possible. Your support helped us turn remembrance into action.

Thank you, Kean Cougars, for helping us Bloom With Kindness and showing that compassion can reach far beyond our campus!

We invite students to come together in a spirit of connection and support! Join us September 14th in creating interactive chalk-messaging experience at the Clock Tower, where students can write affirmations, words of encouragement, and messages of hope for others to find. Stop by to spread some positivity, collect a self-care kit, and be reminded that support is always here on campus.

Stop by one of our HRI UNITES pop-up tables and help build a care package for 9/11 Day.

Design a bag with a positive message, fill it with the items provided, and we’ll handle the donation. It only takes a few minutes, but it can make a real difference.
