I started my taxidermy business in 2009 after attending taxidermy school in Missoula, Montana. I went full-time in 2011. Now due to another full-time job I am only specializing in deer and duck mounts. In 2014 I started processing deer and continue to expand and grow this part of my business.

NOW HIRING: EXPERIENCED BUTCHER / MEAT PROCESSOR

We’re gearing up for deer season and looking for the right person to join our team!

Wild America Taxidermy & Deer Processing / Smitty’s Meats is looking for an experienced butcher or meat processor to join our team in Union Grove, NC.

What we’re looking for:
• Hands-on meat cutting and processing experience is required.
• Experience slaughtering, skinning, gutting, and processing deer or livestock is strongly preferred, but we’re willing to train the right person with solid meat-cutting experience.
• Reliable, dependable, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Position Details:
• Seasonal position: August through January (opportunity for year-round work for the right person)
• Monday–Friday schedule
• Some Saturdays and overtime required during peak deer season (November–December)
• Pay based on experience

🦌 BIG MILESTONE — DEER #1,000 🦌

We officially hit deer number 1,000 today — and it happened to be a big buck, which makes it even better.

We just want to say thank you.
Thank you to this community for the trust and support, and a huge thank-you to our team who shows up every day and makes this possible. None of this happens without them.

We’re grateful, we’re proud of the work, and we’re looking forward to finishing the season strong. 💪🦌

🦌 SHOP UPDATE — DOE ACTIVITY & WHAT WE’RE SEEING 🦌

We’ve had a high number of does coming into the shop, which lines up with what many of y’all are seeing in the woods right now.

In today’s video, I show something we’re finding during processing — placenta with embryos present. That tells us breeding has already taken place, and it helps confirm where we are in the season biologically.

This kind of information gives insight into:
• Current rut timing
• Why buck movement is shifting
• What to expect over the next several weeks

We’re open until 8:30 PM tonight, and we’ll continue sharing what we’re seeing from the shop side as it happens.

🦌 RUT UPDATE — SECONDARY PUSH IS STARTING + SPECIAL OFFER AT END OF VIDEO🦌Early December started off slow — which is completely normal. But yesterday we saw a noticeable uptick, with larger bucks coming into the shop.Talking with hunters, deer were either: • Hitting bait • Locking onto food sources • Or starting to chase doesThat combination tells me one thing — the secondary rut is beginning to kick off.Add in these super cold temps and another front moving through Thursday and Friday, and everything is lining up for another solid window.If you’ve still got time to hunt…This is a good stretch to be in the woods 🔥🦌.
