🌟Important Announcement from the PTO Team🌟
Dear Colin Powell Elementary School Families,
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Maria and I, your PTO President and Vice President, will be stepping down from our roles this year. This past year has been super incredibly challenging for us—not due to a lack of desire to serve, but rather due to the limited involvement from our parent community.
With over 750 students at Colin Powell, we’ve found that only two dedicated moms stepped up, along with a handful of volunteers who helped when they could (thank you for that). While we cherish the moments we spent working for our school community, we must acknowledge the impact of this lack of participation.
The students have expressed to us directly how much they truly enjoyed events like Career Day, Science Night, and just recently, The Ultimate Spring Dance. We constantly get stopped at soccer games and pick ups to hear their excitement about the next event. It’s heartbreaking to see their faces when we have to inform them that there is currently no PTO for Fall 2025. As this decision weighs heavily on our hearts, we know it’s especially hard for our children, who are most affected by our absence.
This message isn’t about making anyone feel bad but simply raising awareness about the importance of your involvement. How could you be more active come September? When we don’t show up, our children miss out on valuable experiences and opportunities.
We understand that life can be busy—many of us juggle work, school, and other commitments. However, it is crucial to remember that our children thrive when we come together as a community.
We encourage all parents to consider how they can contribute to our school and support our students. If you are interested in becoming a member of the PTO, please send us a direct message for more information. June 19th is the last day to sign up to run the PTO. Your involvement, no matter how big or small, can make a significant difference.

🌟Anuncio Importante del Equipo de PTO🌟
Queridas familias de la Escuela Primaria Colin Powell,
Con el corazón pesado, anunciamos que María y yo, su Presidenta y Vicepresidenta del PTO, dejaremos nuestros roles este año. Este último año ha sido increíblemente desafiante para nosotros, no por falta de deseo de servir, sino por la limitada participación de nuestra comunidad de padres.
Con más de 750 estudiantes en Colin Powell, hemos encontrado que solo dos mamás dedicadas se ofrecieron como voluntarias, junto con un puñado de voluntarios que ayudaron cuando pudieron (gracias por eso). Si bien valoramos los momentos que pasamos trabajando por nuestra comunidad escolar, debemos reconocer el impacto de esta falta de participación.
Los estudiantes nos han expresado directamente cuánto disfrutaron eventos como el Día de la Carrera, la Noche de Ciencia y, más recientemente, el Baile de Primavera. Constantemente nos detienen en los partidos de fútbol y en las recogidas para compartir su emoción por el próximo evento. Es desgarrador ver sus rostros cuando tenemos que informarles que actualmente no hay PTO para el Otoño de 2025. Esta decisión pesa en nuestros corazones, y sabemos que es especialmente difícil para nuestros hijos, quienes son los más afectados por nuestra ausencia.
Este mensaje no es para hacer sentir mal a nadie, sino para crear conciencia sobre la importancia de su participación. ¿Cómo podrían ser más activos en septiembre? Cuando no nos presentamos, nuestros hijos se pierden experiencias y oportunidades valiosas.
Entendemos que la vida puede ser ocupada; muchos de nosotros equilibramos trabajo, escuela y otros compromisos. Sin embargo, es crucial recordar que nuestros hijos prosperan cuando nos unimos como comunidad.
Animamos a todos los padres a considerar cómo pueden contribuir a nuestra escuela y apoyar a nuestros estudiantes. Si están interesados en convertirse en miembros del PTO, por favor envíennos un mensaje directo para más información. El 19 de junio es el último día para inscribirse y dirigir el PTO. Su participación, sin importar cuán grande o pequeña, puede hacer una diferencia significativa.
