Wow!

Your tongue acts as a rudder and support system through a fascial line that runs right down to your toes!

In nearly all my patients, I see poor tongue posture, and the links to bad spinal posture, breathing, and other issues are felt right throughout the body.

The simplest way we can see how the tongue is so influential is how it supports proper head posture. When the tongue is down and forward, forward head posture and mouthbreathing occurs.

Over time this associates with a narrow jaw, crooked teeth, and sleep disorders.

But… you guessed it, as always the mouth is a gateway for so many other systems in the body.

The tongue is an extremely complex muscular and fascial rudder system.

It guides all the structures of the myofascial continuity that runs from the inner arch of the foot all the way up through the middle of the body to the tongue and jaw muscles.

Isn’t that amazing?

Actually the tongue is potentially more important for core stability than turning on your actual core.

Our core begins deep under the arch with the insertions of the tendons from the lower leg, especially tibialis posterior.

To find its insertion, feel just under the inside arch of the foot, just underneath and forward of protrusion of the navicular bone you can feel a bit over an inch in front of your tibial malleolus on the inside of your ankle.

This point will respond to a soft-but-energy-rich touch that is held, and also to a more firm and direct fascial release. Pressing here can make a flow of feeling run up the fascial line.

So for better core support, spinal, hip and leg strength, you need to work on your tongue posture.

During exercise practice sealing the tongue to the roof of the mouth, this turns on the fascial rudder to the toes. It takes time and you need to work on making the BACK of the tongue connect to the soft palate. More on this to come.

If you want to be put on my mailing list to get the information to join classes please IM me your contact information.

I am gratefully and graciously accepting donations for these classes but will not turn anyone away right now.

Also, I am teaching online through Mendocino College for the summer session which starts 6/8 for 7 weeks and will include Monday/Wednesday live classes(with only 1x week mandatory). This class will have recorded classes and tutorials in the Canvas program, will require journal entry assignments and a short research paper assignment to assess SLO's. So register now if you want to take Pilates online through the college!

Hi Everyone!
A few announcements and a quick check in!

Mendocino College Pilates Peeps...
I just committed to teaching Pilates online for the summer session. It will be on CANVAS and live classes will happen on Zoom Mondays and Wednesdays at 9-1030am and video options. I am working out all the details but please sign up ASAP so I know I have the numbers for it to go.

The good news is anyone, from anywhere can sign up through Mendocino College! SO PASS THE WORD!

Please note: If you were able to sign up for an actual section this semester, Spring 2020–you can withdrawal without penalty, given the crisis.

Then you use that registration for a future semester. So for those of you not taking the class for a grade or credit, it is a good idea to drop.

If you are auditing, it doesn't matter.

I have been sick with a flu for the past month and am finally feeling like myself again. Very scary time to be sick as you might imagine! So, given that, I am trying to catch up on all my online classes including grading and the steep learning curve of the technology–but plan to start experimenting with online live classes next week. I MISS YOU ALL, and I my body misses feeling strong and centered!

Stay tuned.

Let me know if you have any questions and stay well,
Dena

By now I am sure many of you are aware that the college is recommending that all our classes move online due to the COVID-19 outbreak. I believe that most, if not all classes will be transitioning online starting this week. I will be transitioning all of my classes, including Pilates. While the situation is unfortunate, I am grateful that the college is allowing us to get ahead of the curve and keep our community safer. If you are taking the class for a grade, please check your college email. Big Love to everyone, stay well.

For clarity, no more in person classes until the crisis has passed & I will not be teaching “live” pilates online-i don’t have the technology setup. Students taking the class for a grade will need to find, watch and write reflections on a Pilates workout video. See your college email for details

Reminder: No class at Srudio on State this morning. Classes at Mendo start Wednesday & we’re back to Fridays at SOS. See you Soon.

I can move some beginning students up if needed and already have a few that have asked but we need at least 5 more registered students for it to go.

hint: (for those of you long time students)
