’Twas the Night Before School

A Funny & Sweet Ubly Bearcat Story

August 23, 2026

’Twas the night before school, and all through Ubly town,
The teachers were smiling… as they were getting to lay down.
The hallways were spotless, the classrooms looked great,
And everyone wondered, “Will we really be ready by eight?”

Mr. Walker, the High School Principal, was making his rounds,
Checking lockers and classrooms and listening for sounds.
He looked down every hallway, then said with a grin,
“Tomorrow they’ll be full… and the fun will begin!”

At the elementary, Mrs. Ogryski was working away,
Getting everything ready for the very first day.
The little desks were waiting, all shiny and neat,
Ready for backpacks, excitement, and maybe some feet!

Mr. Volmering, the Building and Grounds Director and his team, had worked quite a while,
Making the school sparkle from ceiling to tile.
They checked every light and made sure all was right,
Then probably whispered, “Please, nothing break tonight!”

Mr. Rothe, the School Resource Officer, walked through with great care,
Making sure that safety and kindness were everywhere.
He knew that by morning the halls would be alive,
With Bearcats arriving and backpacks twice their size!

Out by the gym, Mr. Becker, the Athletic Director, looked over the fields,
Dreaming of touchdowns, home runs, and championship shields.
He checked all the equipment and gave a great cheer,
“Let’s go, Bearcats! It’s going to be a great year!”

Meanwhile, Mr. Asmondy, the Technology Director, stared at screens with delight,
Making sure the Wi-Fi and computers were working just right.
He clicked and he checked and gave one final sigh,
Hoping nobody would say, “Mr. Asmondy… my ipad won’t turn on!” by nine!

The office secretaries were surrounded by papers and phones,
Schedules and messages and names they had known.
They had forms to organize, questions galore,
And somehow still managed to smile through the door!

The Central Office Team was busy as could be,
Making sure everything was ready for the entire Bearcat family.
Budgets and buses and calendars too—
There was always just one more important thing to do!

And then came the paras, the heroes who help every day,
Making a difference in their own special way.
They were getting things ready, with patience and care,
Knowing tomorrow their students would need them right there.

They help with the learning, the laughter, the tears,
They offer encouragement and calm little fears.
They may not wear capes—but everyone knew,
A school couldn’t be a school without the amazing things they do!

And Superintendent Reehl looked over it all with pride,
Thinking of the whole Bearcat family standing side by side.
From the classrooms to the buses and every office door,
It takes an amazing team to make a great school soar.

The teachers had pencils all sharpened with care,
In hopes that their students soon would be there.
The ipads were charging, the bulletin boards bright,
And lesson plans were finished… well, mostly… by night!

The kitchen staff prepared for the breakfast-time crowd,
Knowing hungry Bearcats can be very loud!
The custodians had polished and cleaned every hall,
Knowing by lunchtime someone would spill something—it’s inevitable after all!

The buses stood waiting, all shiny and yellow,
Ready to carry each Bearcat, every friend and fellow.
And somewhere at home, every student was tucked into bed…

Or at least that’s what their parents hoped as they said,
“Get some sleep! School starts tomorrow instead!”

But excitement was buzzing from home to home,
As students picked outfits and packed things to bring along.
Some were nervous, some excited, and some couldn’t wait,
While parents looked at the clock and said, “Please don’t be late!”

Then morning would come with the sunrise so bright,
And Ubly Community Schools would come alive just right.
With laughter and friendship and learning anew,
There’d be amazing adventures for everyone to pursue.

So sleep tight, Bearcats, and get plenty of rest,
Because tomorrow we’ll all give our very best.
The principals are ready, the teachers are too,
The paras, secretaries, and the whole amazing crew!

The Central Office is ready, the technology too,
The kitchen is cooking up breakfast for you.
The buses are waiting, the staff and crossing guard is ready too…

Because there’s just one thing missing—

and that thing is YOU! ❤️🐾

Welcome Back, Ubly Bearcats!

See you on August 24, 2026!

Let’s make the 2026–2027 school year the BEST one yet!

Important Reminder: Student Bus Transportation and Schedule Adjustments

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well on the eve of the 2026-2027 school year. I am writing to remind you that students that utilizing the school bus transportation service as part of their daily commute to and from school. Please be advised that it may take a few weeks to establish a consistent schedule and for all routines to be firmly in place.

During this initial adjustment period, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding. It is common for bus routes to experience variations in timing, with arrivals and departures potentially running 5 to 10 minutes earlier or later than expected. Our transportation team is diligently working to optimize routes and ensure reliable service for all students.

We appreciate your cooperation and support as we work through these early stages to provide a safe and efficient bus system. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school transportation office.

Dear Bearcat Families and Students,
Welcome back! As we look forward to the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year at Ubly Community Schools, there is a great sense of excitement and anticipation throughout our Bearcat community. With the first day of school just around the corner on Monday, August 24th, we are eager to welcome students back to our classrooms, hallways, activities, and traditions. Doors will open at 7:15 a.m. each morning.
This past week, our staff took time to recharge and prepare for the year ahead. They completed their Capturing Kids' Hearts Recharge training, got up to speed on important changes, and received training in new curriculum and instructional practices. Their dedication reflects our shared commitment to providing every student with meaningful learning experiences and the support they need to succeed.
We all went into education for one thing; the kids. Our goal is to provide the best educational experience we can for every student. That is why Capturing Kids' Hearts is so important to the culture of Ubly Community Schools. Strong relationships help students thrive, and our staff is committed to building positive connections, creating welcoming learning environments, and supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student so each Bearcat feels known, valued, encouraged, and ready to reach their full potential.
Thank you to all who attended open house and got connected with your child's teacher. As a reminder, if any concerns come up during the year inside the classroom, please contact the teacher first, then your building principal if needed. If it is a concern outside the classroom, please speak with your building principal first to allow them the opportunity to look into the situation.
We are excited to announce that LatchKey will be open on the first day of school, Monday, August 24th. We apologize for any confusion, as we shared at open house that it would open the Tuesday after Labor Day. We know how important this service is to so many families, and we were able to get a staff together to make this happen for you. Please remember it is 20 dollars to register your family for this service.
Families are an essential part of our school community, and we are grateful for your partnership. Together we can make this a successful and memorable year for our students. Thank you for the support, encouragement, and Bearcat spirit you bring to our schools each day. We look forward to seeing our students and families on Monday, August 24th, and beginning this new journey together. Welcome back, Bearcats!
With Bearcat pride,
Troy Reehl

Important Reminder: Technology Agreement Signing at Open House

Dear Bearcat Parents and Students,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. As we prepare to kick off the new school year with staff participating in professional development and organizing classrooms for the upcoming open house, we would like to share an important reminder regarding technology agreements.

Please be reminded that both students and parents must be present to sign the technology agreement before students can receive their devices. Last year, we encountered several instances where students, primarily from our junior high and high school, arrived to pick up their devices without a parent present and were unable to do so.

To avoid any inconvenience, we kindly ask that you plan to attend the open house together with your student. This will ensure that both of you can complete the necessary paperwork and receive the technology device without any issues.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,
Ubly Administration
