October Safety & Wellness Month: Throughout this month we will be highlighting ways to develop a healthy spiritual and physical lifestyle and welcoming guest presenters. Last Friday we enjoyed playing and learning at Reservoir Park. Our day included presenters from the PA Game and Field & Stream Commissions.
Thank you to Wildlife Biologists Mr. Musselman and Mr. Kibe and Fisheries Biologist Mr. King. Also Sargent College and SGW Sawina who shared about being a State Game Warden. We were blessed by your knowledge and the time you shared with us during the day.

Doing God's Work: The members of our entrepreneurial business The Rescue Aid have been learning how to create a company and sell services. This week they shared their marketing idea for a product using print ads and even a commercial. Watch the announcement next week revealing their first service project venture.

What’s Happening in the Harry K. Sickler STREAM Lab?
Kindergarten and First Grade explored engineering as they designed and built a tower using apple wedges and sticks. Critical thinking, mathematical calculations, teamwork, and communication were all part of a successful build.

We celebrated God’s love and the promise of Jesus together at last week’s School Mass. Preschool joined for the first time today and really enjoyed the student singers and bell choir. Experiencing the students who share their talents to praise God is a very uplifting experience. for everyone.

The Harry K. Sickler STREAM Lab - Our STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, English, Art, Math) Lab enables large and small groups to experience activities that incorporate multiple skill areas while developing critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. The Lab was named in honor of local Saint Matthew parishioner Harry Sickler who was not only an alum, but a life-long supporter of our school.
At the Lab, students in Kindergarten and First Grade worked collaboratively to examine and classify different apples by color and taste. Using math, critical thinking, and communication skills each team charted their preferences while also reflecting on the abundance God provides to us during every season.

Today we celebrated together the gift of Jesus at our first School Mass. The student bell choir, readers, and cantors did a wonderful job and inspired us all with their love for the Lord.

Monday means Library and books! Each Monday our amazing Librarian, Ms. Rudakewich, inspires the students to love reading. Today it was the story "Where the Wild Things Are" and then selecting a book to borrow for the week. It may bring back memories for many of you who had Ms. Rudakewich when you were in school.

What a wonderful first day if the new school year. God has blessed us with such amazing students and their supportive families as we begin our 158th year making Saint Matthew the oldest continually operating Catholic School in the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese.

The first day of school is on Wednesday! We are so excited to begin our 158th year welcoming back so many amazing students and blessed by the new students joining our school family. May God bless and guard each student, their family, and the staff. Watch for First Day pictures!
