St. Matthew School

St. Matthew School Saint Matthew School has been a Tyrone area tradition for over 150 years. Come see the difference! All faiths are encouraged to attend Saint Matthew School.

Since Saint Matthew School was founded in 1869, over six generations of Tyrone area people have received their elementary education in this "fine school on the hill". The Sisters of Mercy came from their Motherhouse in Loretto, PA to teach in the school which was built in 1886. We offer small class sizes, individualized attention, academic excellence and character and spiritual development.

Funding for our school is under threat. House Bill 2632 attempts to alter the EITC program and if passed would result in the loss of the funds that allow us to support tuition costs for every family. The EITC program does not use funds otherwise allocated for public education and is one of the few opportunities a taxpayer can decide how their money can be spent. Please consider asking your state House and Senate representatives to oppose this bill. Thank you.

Art of 3D Printing- Chase Weber, currently a junior at Tyrone, was our recent Artist in Residence guest presenter as he shared the art of 3D printing. Having completed a course in drafting and 3D printing design, Chase shared how the machine works as well as samples of items he has created. The students worked with Chase to create an original design for a figure that he is going to turn into a computer program. Chase then returned to actually print the 3D figure and present each student with their own figure to color. The 3D printer is part of the Harry Sickler STREAM Science Lab and part of our interactive science curriculum.

Congratulations!
Three Saint Matthew School students were selected as winners in the 2026 Law Day Poster Contest sponsored by the Blair County Bar Association and 250 Commission.
