We’re excited to celebrate Grandparents Day at Dozier’s Academy of Dyslexia! 💕👵🏽👴🏻

Join us this Friday at 1:00 PM for a special program as our students perform and show their grandparents just how loved and appreciated they are. 🎶💐

Our program will begin sharply at 1:00 PM, so we recommend arriving a few minutes early to get seated. Grandparents may check out their grandchild after the program.

We can’t wait to celebrate the special people who help make our students’ lives brighter! 💛

Dyslexia is the most common learning difference. It is believed that 10-20% of the population has some form of dyslexia.

When we say dyslexia, we
🧠deepen our understanding
👄provide a name for struggles
💪🏼empower those with dyslexia

‼️Did you know that the United States Department of Education sent out a letter in 2015 to all schools clarifying that there is nothing in the IDEA that prohibits the use of the term dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia in an IDEA evaluation, eligibility determination, or IEP document?

For quite some time, there has been a shift in language within the community from the person first to identify first. This is a personal decision, but as we see the being highlighted and the movement for options to identify on platforms like LinkedIn, awareness of this shift in language for neurodiverse thinkers is essential.

So, let’s say dyslexia. Let’s educate ourselves so that we can better serve and honor our students. 🦋

Our students were SO excited for Show & Tell Thursday! 🧸🎉

This week, we learned about nouns, adjectives, and articles and how they are used in a sentence. So, we decided to flip the lesson and make it hands-on! Our students brought in one of their favorite toys and then wrote about it using nouns and adjectives. ✏️📚

They were so excited to share their toys, describe them, and put what they learned into practice! We love turning learning into experiences our students can connect with and enjoy! 💙🦁
