So very proud of Rachel! Congratulations 🎉

Today we recognize an UT Tyler accounting alum, Rachel Boshers Norris of Longview. During last months TSBA's swearing in ceremony, Rachel was honored by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy as one of the top 10 candidates in the state for outstanding performance on the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination.👏💙

While at UT Tyler, Norris was a member of the UT Tyler Honors College and served as a graduate teaching assistant and Texas Society of CPAs student ambassador. In the latter roles, she promoted the accounting profession and assisted other UT Tyler students in learning the accounting language. “I owe much of my success to UT Tyler and the dedication of their faculty,” said Norris. “The personalized instruction and mentoring I received helped set me up for success with both the CPA exam and my career in public accounting.”

As Dr. Veronda Willis, UT Tyler associate professor and graduate program director, said “this is a remarkable achievement ”, and we are proud of how UT Tyler prepares students for success in the accounting profession through rigorous coursework, applied learning and faculty mentorship. Congratulations Rachel!

We are so proud of our Spring 2025 Accountancy Masters Graduales. Our last i-MAcc graduate, Ryan McKelvey, and our first two MSPA graduates, Aaron Oviedo and Giselle Rico. Job well done and much success in all that you do!

A quick summary of CPA Exam Requirements to take the exam. After September 1, 2023, there are additional requirements for licensure.

𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺 𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯
Effective September 1, 2023, the Texas Public Accountancy Act has been amended. It permits candidates with a baccalaureate or higher degree recognized by the Board and 120 semester hours of Board recognized courses, including no fewer than 24 semester hours of accounting, of which 21 must be upper-level accounting, to take the CPA Exam. Please note that candidates are still required to have 150 semester hours of Board-recognized courses, six additional semester credit hours of upper-level accounting, and completion of a three-semester hour, Board-approved ethics course in order to become a certified public accountant.
