In Form 2, students are learning Latin. Our program is called Latin Through Stories, authored by Dr Laura Eidt from The University of Dallas.

The first part of the lesson, students settle into the lesson with a prayer, Bible verses, songs, and nursery rhymes.

The second part is a picture study. We study beautiful works of art. New words and grammar are introduced and woven throughout.

The third part is a Little Socratic Talk. This is modeled after the dialogue between Socrates and the little slave boy in Plato’s Meno. This is spoken all in Latin.

The fourth part is Little Socratic Reading. Ten picture books accompany level 1 which provide abundant comprehensible input through the pictures and simple narrative.

We are going on week #2 of co-op. We are a big group from littles all the way to high school! We stay busy with all our subjects (artist and composer study, hymn and folk song, Plutarch, history, paper sloyd, geography, literature, science, Latin, grammar and dictation, and a whole lotta fun!) Many wonderful families are coming together to create an atmosphere of learning for our students…it’s such a blessing!

We have spent some time this summer reading Charlotte Mason’s volume “Home Education”. We ended our summer with a wonderful teacher training, have been preparing lessons, and begin our first week of co-op this week! May we send a little love and prayers to all our students, parents and other families getting ready for a year of learning!

Charlotte Mason believed that educational practice flows from educational philosophy which is why we continue to read and study her works. This summer we are diving into “Home Education” to deepen our understanding of the ideas that shape the way we teach and to cultivate a living education for our children. May our own continued education aid us in educating with greater purpose, confidence, and consistency.

Our Form 3 & 4 students have been working on their Lincoln Douglas debates. This year in our History and Humanities class we read the Federalist Papers, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, The Constitution and The Declaration of Independence weekly, among many other historical documents, along with Biographies, Literature, Dictation and Grammar, Citizenship, Composition, Worldview and more.
