Unpopular opinion…..but it needs to be said.

Certification ALONE is not enough to build a sustainable career in the lash industry.

Yes, it teaches technique. And yes, it can definitely build confidence.

But what it doesn’t do is give you legal protection, fully prepare you for client safety, or set you up for long-term credibility.

LICENSING DOES THAT.

Know your state laws.

Why Licensing Matters in the Lash Industry

The beauty industry is more than creativity, it’s also public health and safety

When you apply eyelash extensions, you’re working millimeters away from someone’s eyes. That requires knowledge of sanitation, anatomy, adhesive, and infection prevention.

That’s why most states require Lash professionals to obtain a cosmetology, esthetician, or a specialty lash license before performing services.

In the state of Texas, certification courses are great for learning advanced techniques, or for licensed cosmetologist or estheticians to obtain training they didn’t receive during the tenure of their program. but this is not the same as state regulated education.

As educators and industry leaders, we should be helping people understand the difference, not blurring the lines. When professionals are properly educated and licensed, it elevates the entire industry..

Let’s Talk About it

The lash industry has normalized something that doesn’t make sense.

You’ll hear people proudly say: “ I’m a certified lash artist”.

But here’s the real question… Are you licensed?

Certification means you took a class. Licensing means you’re legally allowed to work on the public. And those are not the same.

This isn’t about tearing down anyone, it’s about protecting the client, the artist, and the future of the industry.

Let’s stop blurring these lines because when we do that we lower the standards.

Friends,

I’ve received an overwhelming amount of calls about the 320 Hour Course. At this time, I am not enrolling new students and I do not have a confirmed date for my next class.

However, I am still holding 1 on 1 and small group training classes to certify cosmetologists and estheticians ONLY.

I’ve also officially relocated to the DFW area and I’m no longer based in East Texas.

There’s not enough words to describe how grateful I am for every student that came through Lifestyle Lash Academy and the OG’s of Lash Studio 214 Beauty & Training Academy.

When enrollment opens back up, you’ll be the first to know. I’m still building…still creating….I’ll share soon what’s next. 😉

I didn’t get into the lash industry “young”. I didn’t have a head start, a blueprint, or everything figured out.

What I did have was COURAGE.

I started later than most — and that taught me something VERY powerful:
There is NO EXPIRATION DATE on purpose.
No age limit on success.
No timeline you have to race against.

To the younger beauty professionals reading this: Don’t wait. Don’t doubt yourself. Don’t shrink your dreams because you think you have “time.”

Use your energy, creativity, and voice NOW.

And know this….whether you’re 20, 30, 40, or beyond…if you’re willing to learn, stay consistent, and believe in yourself, you can build something incredible!

I’m proof that it’s never too late—and you’re proof it’s never too early.

Go for it. ✨

FAQ’s about becoming a licensed lash tech:

1. Do I have to have any experience?
Absolutely not! Just come with an open mind, be teachable & willing to learn.

2. Will I learn volume, wet sets & wispy?
That depends on the school you attend. Most community colleges, DO NOT. Unless they bring a trainer in, and in most cases, that will be an extra fee.
Private Secondary schools will usually add the specialty training in towards the end. Some, not all.
The 320 Hour Course is designed for you to pass state board exams ONLY. You will learn classics FIRST, because that’s what is REQUIRED for your exam.

3. Is it easy to learn?
This isn’t an easy skill to pick up and make fast money. You have to keep practicing and INVEST in quality products, tools, & trainings before you see a profit. You will not see $1k weeks right out the gate.

4. I wanna do lashes so I can BE MY OWN BOSS!
I’ve heard this more times than I can count. Becoming a business owner doesn’t automatically make you a boss. You have to WORK. Get your skills up. Invest! In your tools, products, backend, MINDSET…..all of that & more. Get a coach or a mentor and work on becoming a great BUSINESS OWNER. Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone.

And just a lil FYI, you’re not a boss until you have to write ✍️ someone else a check. No shade, that’s REAL TALK. 🤏🏽
