πŸŒŠπŸ’§FLOODPLAIN SCIENCE IN ACTION!πŸ˜οΈπŸ”¬

Our 6th graders were so fortunate to welcome the team from Chatham County Engineering, led by Dr. Angela Bliss, for an incredible hands-on lesson all about floodplains and flood preparedness!🌧️🌊

Using interactive Enviroscape models, students got to see firsthand how flooding can impact our communities and explored ways we can better understand, prepare for, and respond to flooding right here in our local area. πŸ πŸ’¦πŸŒŽ

There’s nothing better than bringing real-world science, engineering, and community experts into the classroom! πŸ§ βš™οΈπŸ‘

A HUGE thank you to Dr. Bliss and the Chatham County Engineering team for sharing their knowledge and making learning come to life for our students! πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

πŸš’πŸ’‘πŸ”Š LIGHTS, SOUNDS & SAFE SEAS! πŸŒŠβš“

Our 1st graders had a special visitor today! πŸŽ‰ Mr. Ben Beason, a Savannah Bar Pilot, stopped by to share how tugboats and other vessels use light and sound signals to communicate and stay safe on the water! πŸš¨πŸ”¦πŸ“£

Students loved making real-world connections to what they’ve been learning about light, sound, and safety in the classroom! πŸ’‘πŸ‘‚πŸŒŠ

What better way to learn than from someone who experiences it firsthand on our local waterways?! πŸ€©βš“

A HUGE thank you to Mr. Beason for sharing his time, knowledge, and maritime expertise with our young learners! πŸ’™πŸš’

πŸŒŠπŸ”¬ Second grade is exploring the Savannah Riverβ€”past, present, and from every angle!🎨🌱

Our 2nd graders rotated through hands-on learning experiences that combined history, science, technology, art, and agriculture! 🀩

🎨 Multimedia Art: Students explored the rich history of the Savannah River and the people who have depended on it for generations.

πŸ₯¬ Hydroponics: From seed to salad! Students investigated the life cycle of a plant while using our hydroponic growing system to grow their very own lettuce. Along the way, they connected their learning to how Creek and Cherokee communities historically grew and gathered food along the Savannah River. πŸŒ±πŸ’§

πŸ“šπŸ’» Technology: Students listened to a read-aloud of A River Ran Wild and explored how Native American communities relied on rivers as important resources for food, transportation, and daily life. πŸŒŠπŸ›Ά

πŸ”πŸ”¬ Seed Scientists: How does your perspective change when you take a closer look? Students investigated seeds with the naked eye, magnifying glasses, AND microscopes, comparing what they noticed at each level and recording their observations in their STEAM journals!

πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈβš“ Ahoy, 4th Grade! πŸ“šβœ¨

Our 4th-grade students took a trip to the Savannah Children’s Theatre to enjoy Pirates from Grammar Island! 🎭🌴☠️

This fun-filled musical brought grammar to life as students sailed through lessons on parts of speech, punctuation, and sentence structure with catchy songs, hilarious pirate characters, and plenty of laughs along the way! πŸŽΆπŸ˜‚πŸ“

Who knew nouns, verbs, commas, and sentences could be such an adventure?! πŸ—ΊοΈβœοΈπŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ At TIMA, learning goes far beyond the classroomβ€”and sometimes it even comes with pirates! βš“πŸ’™

A huge thank you to the Savannah Children’s Theatre for another memorable learning experience! πŸŽπŸ‘βœ¨

πŸŒŠβš“οΈπŸ’‘ First Grade Learning is SHINING Bright πŸ’‘βš“οΈπŸŒŠ

Our first graders are exploring extreme weather and discovering how light and sound can be used to keep people safe!β›ˆοΈπŸŒͺ️🌊

What better place to see those concepts in action than the Tybee Island Lighthouse?! πŸ–οΈπŸ”¦

Students got a firsthand look at the incredible Fresnel lens, which concentrates light so it can be seenmore than 18 miles away!🀯✨

They also learned about the lighthouse’s fog horn πŸ“£β€”another important tool used to signal ships when visibility is limited.

Our first graders saw how light and sound work together to communicate danger and help keep people safe during extreme weather! πŸŒ§οΈπŸš’βš“οΈ

Nothing beats taking classroom learning out into our own incredible coastal community! πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

πŸ“šβœ¨ A VERY SPECIAL STORY TIME AT TIMA!βœ¨πŸ“š

TIMA had the pleasure of welcoming Savannah local Southern Britt to campus today! πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

Southern wrote a children’s book inspired by her time as a UGA cheerleader β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ“£πŸΎ β€” and she stopped by to share it with some of our youngest readers!

Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students were treated to a special reading from the author herself! πŸ“–πŸ€©

What a wonderful opportunity to connect reading, storytelling, creativity, and a little Georgia spirit! 🐢❀️

A HUGE thank you to Southern for spending time with our students and being today's mystery reader! πŸ₯°πŸ“šβœ¨

πŸͺ±πŸŒ± TODAY WAS WORM DAY IN KINDERGARTEN! 🌱πŸͺ±

Our little scientists got up close and personal with some VERY wiggly friends today! πŸ”πŸ‘€ Kindergarten has been learning all about worms and the important role they play in our compost binsβ€”helping turn food scraps into wonderful, nutrient-rich soil! β™»οΈπŸŒŽπŸŒΏ

Today, students investigated LIVE worms and put their science skills to work! πŸ§‘β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬ They looked closely, drew detailed diagrams ✏️, measured how long their worms were πŸ“, and described how they felt and moved! πŸͺ±γ€°οΈ

And of course… a few lucky worms even received their very own names! πŸ˜‚πŸ₯°πŸͺ±

Hands-on science + composting + some new wiggly friends = a pretty amazing day in Kindergarten! πŸ’šπŸŒ±β™»οΈ
