Raven's Roots Naturalist School

Raven's Roots is a naturalist education school which teaches short/extended courses We're located in NW Washington state near the foothills of the Cascades.

Raven's Roots is a naturalist school run by it's staff, students and community as a cooperative. We offer courses (short and long) that are both pertinent to becoming a naturalist and/or related to self-reliance (ie Wildlife track and sign, ethnobotany, permaculture, homesteading, survival, primitive skills etc.).

We still have some space on our Wild Womxn 3-Day Backpacking Courses coming up soon in late August!

These courses are designed to empower women and non-binary folks looking to find greater confidence in the backcountry. With expert Naturalist instructors and a safe and positive setting, this course is a perfect addition to your summer time outside.

The night sky is a beautiful tapestry of stories, and this program is designed to share some of them with you! Spend an hour with a former National Park Ranger and a former Planetarium guide learning about the constellations, how to recognize and find them, and what stories they can tell us about our past…and the future.

Help us share out this event far and wide, and come be a part of our first ever night sky program!

Our Ethnobotany Immersion Course participants spent the weekend getting familiar with the flora of southwestern Washington's riperian habitats, old-growth conifer forests, and Oregon White Oak savannahs.

Next month, he head out to the Olympic Peninsula to meet some truly unique plants, and learn their edible, medicinal, and utilitarian properties. We still have a few drop in slots available for anyone who wants to sign up at ravensroots.org (link in bio).

A new FREE course offering in Bellingham! Come join us for the evening this Earth Day (Wednesday, April 22nd) for a free course highlighting some of the special trees growing on the campus of Western Washington University!

All trees have a story, but it can be all too easy for them to just disappear into the landscape... This tree walk is all about telling the stories of trees, their history, their ecology, and how they connect to us as human beings!

This event is open to the public, and takes place from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. We will be meeting in front of the Viking Union Building at WWU. While this event is free, we do ask that you REGISTER so that we can have an idea of the headcount in advance! Sign up at ravensroots.org/short-courses (link in bio).

Please dress for the weather, trees like to live outside so that is where we will be!
