The Highland Culture Club of CSI is a club designed to promote the diversity of those who claim Scottish, Irish, Welsh and English ancestry, including participation in the local highland games and festival.
Operating as usual
Highland Culture Club of the College of Southern Idaho updated their address.
Hello all of my friends in the Scottish Highland Games community.
I have to finally get this 800 pound gorilla off my back. There will be no Scottish Highland Games at the College of Southern Idaho. I have been hoping for the something to happen that would allow the games to return for its 7th amazing year. The Student Clubs and Organizations pulled the funds from by group the Highland Culture Club in the fall making it really impossible for us to put the games on. The CSI Clubs and organizations also pulled a key fund raiser that each club had the chance to raise funds for their own activities, hurting the chance of the games happening. As I explored options to raise funds for this my own personal life really got in the way and I really had to really pull some more weight at home while Shawna was recovering from three different surgeries in three months. I was approached by several people reference the games and options and there was not enough funds, involvement, or interest in the activity. With Shawna and my choices on our personal life coupled with school to accomplish our own goals left little time to seek out funds to make the games happen. Also with commitments that we have going, I see my active role in the Scottish Highland Games this year as minimal at best. At best under our current calendar I may not even compete at all this year. I will have to wait and see on that.
So that there it is in a nutshell. No Scottish Highland Games on Campus and without the support of the College of Southern Idaho. With no funds available to the club, The All Women’s Games Valkyrie games in July might have to find another venue as well. This has been really hard to cut the ties on somethings that you have worked on to improve the culture of the sport. After my commitments are taken care of this year, I will return as an athlete. As for any Scottish Highland Games of any kind happening again on the campus of the College of Southern Idaho grounds remains a total unknown.

CSI Senators plan fundraising pasta dinner
College of Southern Idaho student senators have planned a pasta dinner the evening of Friday, Apr. 12 to continue raising money for their annual Operation Change campaign. Formerly known as Change for Children, the activity raises funds each year for a local child or student with overwhelming needs. This year’s recipient is Prescott Hanni, a youngster with complex and extraordinary conditions that have affected his mobility and speech.
The student senators will assist with the meal preparation. Selections will include spaghetti with meat sauce and chicken Alfredo, salads, and desserts. The dinner will be served buffet style from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Turf Club on Falls Ave. Music will be provided by the CSI Jazz Program.
Tickets at the door will be $8 per person or $15 per couple.
Come on down and do the Celtic Dash Raise the Cash. The money from doing this run or walk go to the CSI Student Senate and Operation Change to help a very needy family from our community!
You can print up this form fill it out and bring with you the day of the event or take it to the CSI Recreation Center and register there. We are past the date of the T-shirts, but we will still have snacks and drinks for you and we will let you into the rest of our event with a green ribbon for free so you can enjoy the Music, Dancing, and the Heavy Games!
