Thank you for five years of business, Magic Valley!

[08/17/18]   We want children to love school...especially math! Our tutors love learning and enthusiastically convey that to their students. Ask our tutors what they enjoy most, and they will say solving the riddles of math and reading books. We kind of love parts of speech (prepositions, adjectives, etc.) and sentence structure!!!
As we start a new school year, please consider this---if your child seems to be lagging behind peers and is less than enthusiastic about the mysteries of math or pure enjoyment of unfolding stories, call us at Homework Helpers!
Parents are complimentary about our services, but I think the best thing we do is help to renew your child's joy in learning. In addition to parents and classroom teachers, each tutor is one more person in your child's corner, cheering him or her on!!
Maybe it's just not all that complicated...if they love it, they will learn! Call us today at 208-329-0611.

[05/09/18]   During our summer programs, we promise these things:
1. Your child will read all summer---the most beneficial practice of all!!!
2. Your child will review math skills from the grade just completed.
3. Your child will be introduced to math concepts for the upcoming grade, thereby making those classroom lessons easier!
4. Your child will enjoy the practice! 😊
Please register today at 208-329-0611.

[04/22/18]   I told a young student the other day that if I had one wish, it would be that all children would read, read, read,...and then read some more! Millions of dollars in new curriculums and precious hours gobbled up by costly testing can never compensate for the benefits of sustained, lovingly-encouraged reading practice.
To that end, Homework Helpers will make two important changes to our summer programs. Sessions will lengthen to 90 minutes to ensure more reading practice. In the past, we have encouraged outside reading during the summer and spent the majority of each session on novel discussions and math review. However, if reading is the basis for success in all other subject areas (which it is!), then we must put reading first! As always, we will then review math skills from your child's completed grade, and more importantly, introduce him or her to math skills needed for the next grade. We are great believers in the power of getting ahead by simply introducing advanced skills!
We are forming summer classes now. If your busy summer activities sometimes make reading practice (and math review) difficult, call us today at 208-329-0611! Let's give the true benefits of reading their rightful place at the head of our children's activities.

[01/20/18]   Homework Helpers has partnered with ksquarededu.com! We now offer SAT and ACT preparation! Two amazing tutors also offer Advanced Placement course help and guidance on college applications. We provide GED prep and recently helped a very frustrated mother of three pass her test! Guiding HOMESCHOOL students is a growing segment of our business; teaching students individually is the most enjoyable thing we do!! If you are looking for homework help, individual tutoring, SAT, ACT, AP, GED or homeschooling assistance, please give us a call at 208-329-0611. Education is critical to our future!

[10/29/17]   Homework Helpers is busy with an unprecedented number of requests for middle school and high school math...! We can remediate skills, strengthening the math foundation your child needs for future success, or we can explain the latest common core strategies that can be confusing for everyone.

Call or text today for the quickest response. I try to respond promptly but find that Facebook gets pushed down to the bottom of, or off, my daily list! Those of you who know me will not be surprised by that admission!

[06/15/17]   Our summer programs are up and running! While our younger students are just delightful, we must admit how amazing it was to see four, big 10th grade boys---some of whom have grown up before our very eyes over the last three years---struggling to solve challenging equations!!! I think we broke a cardinal rule of summer and made their brains hurt!! Can't wait for next week!!!😀

[04/18/17]   We are encouraging our students to make a strong finish this school year! Classroom learning is never over until the last day of school! 😊We are getting calls for our summer programs, and I have many ideas I want to try---a science education day at CSI, another weeklong celebration of Roald Dahl' s wacky novels, outdoor math, etc. Most of all, we will embrace and celebrate the joy of summer reading!! It's infectious, you know! 😉 Call today to get your little learners on our busy summer schedule.

[03/20/17]   Grades are in, and grades are up!!! I get to buy books for hard-working students! No better way to spend my break! :-D

[02/05/17]   Recently, several students at Homework Helpers brought in their progress reports to show us their improved grades! They---and their parents---were beaming!! :-D. So I started thinking...a new policy is in order for all of our students!

Each grading quarter, bring in your report card. If you have improved a reading, math, or language grade, I will meet you at Barnes and Noble for hot chocolate and a new book. There is no greater reward for hard work than a new book!

I hope I have to buy a lot of books!!

[12/13/16]   Oh, my goodness! I need to update! The snow outside tells me that, contrary to my current post, it is not summer!

At Homework Helpers, we are in the middle of the school year and are helping students improve grades, complete projects, edit writing, and tackle "new math" procedures! (We "get" those new math problems!) :-D

We will be out of the office until January 2, 2017, and we tend to fill up fast as we enter the second half of the school year! If you would like to help your child catch up, stay current, or even get ahead, call Homework Helpers at 208-329-0611 today!

At Homework Helpers, we believe that given enough time and support ALL children will learn!

Happy Holidays!

[05/14/16]   We are looking forward to summer! During our summer sessions, students review skills from the grade they just completed, and most importantly, practice skills they will see in the next grade. We also read group books (reading is assigned
;-) ) and discuss the story every session. Paragraph writing is made simple!

We love summer! Pressure of grades and testing is off, and the kids get to learn for the sake of learning! We laugh with each other, and enjoy the freedom of summer.

Sign your student up today to keep them engaged over the summer and to give them a head start on the next grade!

[07/25/15]   Gosh, I hate to bring this up...but school is just around the corner! There is still time to send your children back to school in top shape for the new year! We will spend the next two weeks in "boot camp" as we review and firm up the skills students need to hit the ground running!

Students at Homework Helpers this summer have the advantage of having read, written, and computed all summer--with a lot of laughter along the way! ;-)

[06/28/15]   Jude was found, and we are so happy to have him home!!! Thank you to everyone who helped us find him!

[06/12/15]   After spending the first days of summer with my grandchildren, I am reminded of how incredibly busy summer days are!!! Although we read every day, we often didn't get to our books until bedtime! Practicing math facts and letters did not happen every day! :'( ...And I know how important that summer practice is!

If you're having a hard time getting all of that math and reading practice in during your busy summer days, Homework Helpers can help! Drop your children off for two hours a week and rest assured that they will keep their math and reading skills sharp all summer long. Then you all can enjoy your busy summer days---guilt free!

[04/25/15]   So Mrs. Olmstead and I are not the best at updating our page...but we are busy!!! ;-) We have many students at Homework Helpers and are doing work we love! We are making summer plans so if you would like your children to stay off of the summer slide, please call, text, or email today! We promise to be flexible with your busy summer plans and keep sessions enjoyable, yet productive!! Always!! :-)

[10/02/14]   Worried about first quarter grades? There is still time to make up assignments, improve homework percentages, and improve outcomes on end-of-quarter assessments! Call us at Homework Helpers, 208-731-4933, for tutoring and homework assistance!

[08/30/14]   School is underway for many students, and we, at Homework Helpers, are hearing good things! One of our summer students increased her Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) score to "proficient." Another summer student's mother reports that her child scored a 100% on his first AR reading test, and I had the pleasure of listening to one of Mrs. Olmstead's "non-readers" read beautifully last week! Perhaps more importantly, this little guy entered his classroom this year with new confidence in his learning abilities. In fact, he has become a bit of a chatterbox! :) These are all success stories and are precisely why we started Homework Helpers!

Call us at 208-731-4933 today to add another key to unlock your child's potential!

[08/19/14]   Thinking about your child's new school year? We are too! We spent the summer working with students on everything from consonant blends to Algebra 1. We read, read, read and helped young readers earn free books through the Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Program. Mrs. Olmstead has made wonderful progress with non-readers; these young children will enter classrooms this year with newfound skills and confidence! Mrs. Davis prompted her 5th, 6th, and 7th graders to work beyond grade level on math and language arts skills! We hope that our students will enter their new classrooms ready to meet---and exceed---grade-level expectations!

We are now taking registrations for new students. Returning students just need to call to get started. We will offer nightly homework help and individual tutoring, at very reasonable rates, Monday through Thursday.

Help your child improve reading and math skills, gain confidence in his or her abilities, and even stay one step ahead of classroom expectations by calling us today at 731-4933!

[06/21/14]   Summer slide...have you heard those words? Much is being learned about this phenomenon and the negative impact it has on your child's education. A new article today suggests that reteaching forgotten material after summer break costs more than $1500 per student, per year! At Homework Helpers of Magic Valley, we have committed our efforts to preventing summer slide and to offering a head start on the upcoming grade. Call us today to prevent your child's summer slide! 208-731-4933

[06/21/14]   We still have some time slots available at Homework Helpers for the summer. We would love to help your child keep growing academically. Let your Facebook friends know about our summer program and give us a call at 731-4933.
