NEW BUILDING PLANS REVEALEDā¦.
ļæ¼
Friday the 17th at 5:00pm.
Come check out the 11 proposed building plans for a NEW ACTON ACADEMY Twin Falls.
Acton students have played the role of architects in designing ideal school buildings. Challenges have taken the students through the process of: research, design (drafting/sketching), and construction (model building). Theyāve learned about architecture as a calling, scaling and applied mathematics, precision and attention to detail, and working within creative constraints. š š
It is amazing to see their creativity come to life and the pride theyāve taken in designing a new school building for their Acton community. š«
Top off the night with an edible architectural challenge given to all guests. GOOD LUCK š participating in this fun building activity that will test your building skills. Weād suggest teaming up with one of these architecture students!
Itās moments like this that I am SO grateful my kids have this opportunity to learn hands-on. These are life skills that they will use forever! What better way to apply core skills than through real-life applications that make them EXCITED about learning. ā¤ļø
Crazy hair day FUN!
The elementary and middle grade students pushed themselves academically in order to celebrate their accomplishments with a crazy hair day. They of course invited the preschool and kindergarten too.
FUN TIMES!

Who are the most successful people? Whether you define success in wealth, happiness or wisdom, the most successful tend to be resilient, self-directed, disciplined, competent, creative and able to learn on a whims notice.
If the world demands these skills, why do traditional schools require children to conform and teach them such a narrow scope of knowledge completely disconnected from any real-world application?
Acton Academy is a hands-on, project-based school that puts education back into the learner's hands. We treat every child as an individual in an environment that allows them to explore, create and grow to develop the character, knowledge and skills needed for the real world.

Today our heroes began their geography and culture quest. The Sparks (3-6 year olds) started by getting an idea of where they live (see their building blocks) in Twin Falls, expanding to Idaho and level by level until reaching the universe. They then came back down in the afternoon to land in Paris by learning about and building the Eiffel Tower.

I love this picture that was captured in the studio last week. (Here a 2nd year hero helps a kindergarten hero who was timid to practice a cursive letter on the board.) This really sums up the community that's being built at Acton Academy Twin Falls, LLC! What's forming is a tight-knit tribe of caring humans using their gifts and talents to help lift their fellow heroes to their full potential. It makes my heart sing to watch them prepare to change the world.
Thank you to the families who helped and participated in our Christmas Craft Night! It was GREAT watching kids and adults alike be creative and enjoy time together. Canāt wait for next yearās event!

Did you know teaching cursive writing BEFORE manuscript (print) has many benefits!
With only 3 main strokes, it's easier to teach;
Prevents reversal of letters;
Less errors due to the natural, fluid motion;
Enforces skills and patterns for reading;
Strengthens fine motor skills;
Self corrects spacing between letters and words;
Helps left-handed children.
These are reasons your child will learn cursive before print at Acton Academy!
Even older children at Acton are encouraged to learn or strengthen their cursive writing skills, but learning from a young age (around 3) will provide the most benefit to the child.
The Ignite heroes (ages 6-13) are on fire! Itās amazing to watch them choose to engage and how handing their education back to them builds interest, engagement and learning that lasts. I dare you to ask how it works! š
Itās also impressive to watch the tribe grow into a tight-knit community full of caring individuals with unique differences and strengths and use these differences to make each other even better. ā¤ļø
These Spark heroes (3-6 year old students) have been so engaged and excited about learning, exploring and discovering the world around them. They truly have a love of learning being āsparked.ā

Do you question whether students can run their own school? CHECK THIS OUT!
The heroes at Acton Academy lead their own learning. At the beginning of the year, they worked together to creat promises to each other about how they want their studio to function. One of their responsibilities is personal and studio maintenance.
And they promised to loose earned points if they donāt do their maintenance. I informed them last session that occasionally pictures of them and the studio get posted to social media and sent to their families.
Weāll, over the last two days, studio maintenance fell apart! š Donāt worry, thereās a rainbow at the end of this learning experience!š Upon walking in just now, I announce it was time for a picture. At first they tried to stand in front of the mess but then dove into hiding (you can see some under tables).
I snapped a picture then leftā¦.
5 minutes later, they called a town meeting to discuss the problem. They talked about the problem and created solutions. Man, they set tougher rules for themselves than I would have, but they ALL stepped up took responsibility for their actions and promises. A half hour later, the studio was clean. Even dust from before we move in was cleaned out of crevices! š¤£
Iām so impressed with these young heroes!
Ask yourself:
What would have happened if an adult would have told them to clean? How much more do they value and take pride in their studio now that they made it theirs?
Folks, this educational journey is more than memorizing facts for a test! These are the heroes who will responsibility lead our next generation! They know how to think on their feet, solve problems and collaborate together to create a better outcome.
Far too many have grown up thinking education is sitting at a desk while a teacher lectures and tells the students what they "should know," what papers to turn in and what facts to memorize for a test. When in reality, this is not how the world teaches or operates.
The real world doesn't hold back. Your child will be thrown into situations where they'll revert back to the educational foundation they were built. If that foundation was only worksheets and tests, they won't know what to do next without being not told. Thankfully, there IS A BETTER WAY!
Leaning by doing is proven to be the best way for children to learn. Sure, they still will memorize facts, but when they learn it by doing, learning is retained, not lost to the wind once the test is turned in. Why do you think the retention rate one week after a test is so low? Was it engaging and applicable to the child or just a box to check off because they have to do as they're told?
Don't let your child fall through the cracks of the faulty traditional system of educational. When your child learns by doing, they are more confident in their abilities, retain far more and are grounded in independence and resiliency they will need in the real world.
Join the 21st century learning revolution.

To finish off our third quest, our Spark heroes (preschoolers and kindergarteners) had fun showing their parents a bit of what they leaned regarding human anatomy. They picked a parent to join them on stage and then proceeded to pin internal organs, muscles or bones onto their parent. It was CUTE to watch these young ādoctorsā assemble their parents. Over the last month, the students have been so fascinated with learning about many of their systems. When learning is fun, it keeps them coming back for more!
Ignite your child's curiosity about the world and the civilizations that came before us in this 3-week learning experience where students become heroes living in Ancient Greece. At the end of the session, the students will host an exhibition to take their friends and family on a journey through their new discoveries.
Accepting students in grades 1-8th.

SCHOLARSHIPS available to Twin Falls area students.
A BIG THANK YOU to the The Burkett Family for their generous donation!
Because of their generosity, we are able to provide 5 scholarships to new students attending Acton Academy for the Winter 2023 semester. These scholarships total $5,000.
The Burketts are donating to the scholarship fund in order to help families in the area become aware and to experience the difference of a student-led, hands-on, critical thinking school. They too raised their children in such a fashion and believe in giving children such opportunities to grown and develop.
