Let’s talk about planning a senior session that feels like you. Not stiff, stressful, or a Pinterest board you don’t relate to. Just you, your story, and some beautiful photos you’ll be proud to look back on.
Whether you’re from Legacy, Century, BHS, or St. Mary’s, or you’re in Mandan or a nearby town, I’m here to make this whole senior photo thing easy and enjoyable.
Here’s what I recommend when you’re getting ready for the perfect session:
Book Early
Senior season fills up fast. Summer and fall are always the first to go, especially weekends, since I’m also out photographing weddings.
A lot of my seniors book in January or February of their junior year to lock in the dates they want for that summer or early fall. If you’re Class of 2027, now is 100% the time to reach out.
Wondering what season is right for you?
Want golden fields and glowy light? Summer.
Dreaming of layers, boots, and crisp fall air? Fall.
Either way… don’t wait. I’d hate for you to miss your shot, literally.
Choose A Spot That Feels Like Home
Most of my seniors come out to our ranch just north of Tuttle. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and full of options. Wildflowers, fences, hay bales, trees, golden grass, swing in the trees, wooden bridges, and a studio right here on site. You don’t have to drive all over creation to get variety, because I’ve got it all right here.
But if your heart is set on downtown Bismarck vibes or a family farm with meaning, I’ll happily pack up and meet you there. I love making these sessions personal to you!
What To Wear? Let’s Keep It Real
Your senior session is not the time to try to reinvent yourself. Stick with what you feel good in, and let’s build from there.
For girls: Bring 4–5 outfits (plus one backup just in case something doesn’t feel right the day of).
For guys: 3–4 looks work great. Think shirt changes and maybe a different pair of jeans.
Mix it up:
• Something casual (like your go-to school outfit)
• Something a little dressier
• Something totally YOU (sports jersey, favorite hoodie, western wear, boots, etc.)
Accessories matter too. Bring that hat, belt, statement necklace, or bold shoes. They’re a great way to add personality without overthinking it.
Add The Little Details That Tell Your Story
You already know I’m a sucker for a good detail. Whether it’s a family heirloom necklace, your favorite ball cap, your dog, or your truck, those little things bring so much heart to your session.
Hunting gear? Absolutely.
Guitar? Let’s do it.
Cowgirl hat? You'd better bring it.
Your horse? That's a heck YES!
You Don’t Have To Know What to Do, I've Got You
Almost every senior says the same thing before we start: “I’m nervous and don’t know what to do with my hands.”
But I promise, once we get going, it’s not weird. We’ll walk, talk, joke around a little, and the photos will come naturally. I’ll guide you the whole way and make sure you don’t feel like you’re in a photoshoot straight out of the '80s.
This is supposed to be fun, and I’m here to make sure it stays that way.
