Next Sat, July 18th, 2026, we will finally get to have a Life Celebration for my teacher John Perry in the US and (in California). This was the same week as when I got to spend time with him last and heard him perform the Schubert live for the last time. Thanks Andrew for capturing this moment.

It was a full house at our 42nd Annual MPS Students' recital about a week ago! Our students had a Very Special treat when as a surprise, they got to perform on a brand new "break through" Bösendorfer 230 VC performance piano where one can combine the warm and bright tones on the piano at the same time. This is the first to be performed in the US as this particular piano was handmade in Vienna a week ago and only unboxed, completed tuning right up until our students' recital time!

I must say that our students have never sounded better! It truly does make a difference when one gets to perform on such an amazing instrument.

I was extremely proud of each and everyone of the students who worked extremely hard for this very special event!

We also got to introduce our new teacher in our studio as well, Joanna Baird. Welcome, Joanna! :)

To close the program, I last minute added a special presentation as a tribute to my piano teacher John Perry who recently passed away last year.

All in all, this truly was a memorable Students' recital.

As always, many thanks to Edward for helping with recital live stream and programs, Izzy the manager of FHP for always welcoming us. And lastly, to Stirring Up Sweets for students' special piano cookies to take home. Bravo to all! 👏🏻❤️🎹

From OpusOne International Music Festival

Dear Parents, Colleagues, and Students,

Please consider this exciting summer opportunity at the OpusOne International Music Festival to work on audition repertoire, refine skills, and gain some solo performance experience!

There is a concerto competition which vocalists can enter! If singers are interested in chamber music, advance planning will facilitate formation of ensembles for preparation and planning!

The OpusOne International Music festival has been in-residence at APU for the past few years. There has added a voice division- new this summer. It will include opera, oratorio, and musical theater (with dance and acting classes), a concerto competition (arias and songs for singers), a vocal showcase concert with the additional opportunity for a solo in a choral work as well as chamber music! There are fabulous faculty and you can commute or live in-residence. It is a safe and nurturing environment and open to all artists, age 7 and above.

If your voice teacher is a NATS member and you want to attend, you can apply for a student grant to get financial support from NATS-LA. You must be accepted and registered for a program in order to be considered for the scholarship.
The deadline to apply for the grant is May 2nd.
