University of Alabama Writing Center The Writing Center provides free one-on-one consultations for all members of the UA community.

At the Writing Center, we believe that the best way to improve your writing is to talk about it. We aim to create a supportive community of writers, where you will feel that your ideas are valued and your voice matters. While we provide the writing expertise, you are the authority on content. It's Friday and time for another tutor spotlight! Today, we are spotlighting our tutor Mia Mittag, a sophomore in Biochemistry here at UA🐘

🎤Describe what your experience has been like at UA so far!🎤
It's been lovely. There are so many ways to get involved on campus and spend time doing what interests you.

❤️What do you love most about working at the Writing Center?❤️
I love getting to read about so many different topics across so many different genres. Writing can give you such an intimate look at people's individual interpretations and perspectives.

📝What is your favorite piece you have written?📝
In high school, I wrote a short story that was styled as a series of letters someone wrote to a dead friend. It was just a really fun piece to explore because I had no idea where I was going with it until the very end of my first draft. It was one of the first times I surprised myself with what I wound up writing.

Today, we are spotlighting our tutor Rebecca McConnaughhay, who is in her first year in the CRES (Composition, Rhetoric & English Studies) MA program here at UA🐘

🎤Describe what your experience has been like at UA so far!🎤
Surprisingly happy! There isso much going on, and everyone is always so nice!

❤️What do you love most about working at the Writing Center?❤️
The guidance (and patience) of Dr. Dayton as she works with all of us.

📝What do you love to write, and what is your favorite piece you have written?📝
My favorite piece is probably an essay from my senior year about the book of Ruth as literature. It gave me a very new perspective on the Bible, and I greatly appreciated that. I love writing in general because it helps get the many thoughts in my head down where other people can enjoy them, not just me!

UA has been great so far. It’s been a learning curve but I’ll get used to it!

The ability to help students learn about writing and how it coincides with their writing skills.

📝What do you love to write?📝
I love writing personal stories or narratives because I have a lot of opinions that I like to share in abundance!
